How to request books from Interlibrary Loan AKA World Cat
When to access World Cat
When you have searched the resources available to you through Hillsboro or Nashville Public Library , you have one more resource that scans the catalogs of libraries across the country. The World Cat is available to you through Nashville Public Library. The turn around on getting materials could be instantaneously (if it is a digital copy) to over 2 weeks. All materials will be delivered to the school library for pick up.
So the Library doesn't have your book...
Depending on how you access the catalog, Click on "Can't find what you want" & then "Request from Interlibrary Loan" and search there.
"First Time Users" will need to register using their Student ID as their Library Card # & their birthday (MMYY) as their PIN
Scroll Down to "First Time User" and fill out form. Be sure to use your Student ID # as your Library Card #
Also make sure you choose "zMNPS High School" as your location pick-up
After your "Submit Information" then you can search for your book on the top left of the new page by choosing "Article" or "Book".
Make sure to have the correct Title Spelling & Author when filling out the form.
World Cat
Reminder to use the search features to narrow down the search results:
- Language (English)
- print book
- non-fiction or fiction depending on your topic
- audience (there will be children's books available, so eliminate that option if not needed)
Then Submit and IL will search the book for you and notify you if it it found!
Check back on this screen to watch if your loan is approved.
Other helpful tips
Realize that sometimes the items may not be sent due to it being a valuable and last edition. Sometimes books aren't sent because they have holds on them from various departments from the University. Most often the books are approved but there have been incidents where the books is unavailable. Be sure to take care of these items and return as soon as you are finished. You can just photocopy the impertinent information and return immediately to avoid late fees. If you ever have an issue, feel free to ask someone in the library for help!
