St Charles Newsletter
11th October 2024
Message To Parents From Our Head Of School
Dear Parent/Carer,
I hope this weekβs newsletter finds you and your family well.
The week has been a very busy one for us all at St Charles, as you will read below, but I would like to just highlight some aspects from the religious life of the school which show how we continue to live out our faith and serve God.
The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
Monday 7th October was the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary. The feast was introduced by Pope Pius V to commemorate the miraculous victory of the Christian forces in the Battle of Lepanto on 7th October 1571, and the Church has celebrated it ever since. Since the Middle Ages the feast has evolved to include the whole of the month being dedicated to Our Blessed Lady and the Rosary. At St Charles we mark the month by inviting pupils from KS2 to recite a decade of the Rosary led by the Chaplaincy every morning. In addition to this, KS2 recite the Hail Holy Queen and the Angelus as part of their daily prayers. In KS1 the children start the day with 5 Hail Maryβs and a quiet reflection. Perhaps you could take time this week to discuss the Rosary with your child/ren and use it to pray to Mary at home.
Peace in the Middle East
On Monday 7th October the world was asked by Pope Francis to pray for peace in the Middle East. The children did this in a very reverend and peaceful way in their classrooms.
Harvest Festival
Thank you to 1D who presented our Harvest Assembly this morning and to everyone who gave so generously to our Harvest Festival. We will be giving the food to Fr Peter who will distribute it to the needy in our parish. On behalf of the parish, Fr Peter would like to thank you all for your wonderful generosity.
Regards,
Tony Lynch

Gospel: How can a man have eternal life (Mark 10:17-30)
Using the Wednesday Word link below, read this Sundayβs Gospel
and reflect on the questions below with your family.
You will have an opportunity to discuss them again next week in School during the Gospel/Well done Assembly.
https://www.paperturn-view.com/uk/wednesday-word/messenger?pid=MTA101634&v=5.5
KS1
- What did the man want to know?
- What did Jesus tell the man to do?
- Do you think the man went away and did this? Why do you think this?
KS2
- What is eternal life?
- What are the two things Jesus said the main must do?
- What were the Disciples concerned about at the end of the Gospel?
Prayer Bear
Each week a different child in Nursery will take Polly, our Nursery Prayer Bear, home for the weekend.
Last weekend, Polly spent time with Charlie, where together they showed their love for God through thoughtful prayers and kind actions.
Attendance
This weeks attendance award goes to 6G with 98% attendance.
This weeks punctuality award goes to 3/4H with 43 minutes lost.
We are working towards achieving 96% attendance this academic year. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends school each day and by not booking any holiday during term time. Please be aware that holiday leave in term time cannot be authorised. There is strong correlation between good attendance and good progress. So together, letβs give our children the best possible chance of reaching their potential.
Parents' Consultation Evenings
Face-to-face parentsβ consultations for the autumn term will take place on Monday 21st and Thursday 24th October. The main times are listed below but some classes, due to numbers may have slots beyond the times shown.
