We Believe In The Power Of Yet!
A Note from Mrs. Garza, Emergent Bilingual Spec. & Campus Testing Coordinator
STAAR Test April 2024
Dear Parents,
Our 3rd – 5th Grade Palominos will be taking the STAAR test on the following dates.
Tuesday, April 9 – 3rd – 5th Grade Reading
Tuesday, April 16 – 5th Grade Science
Tuesday, April 23 – 3rd – 5th Grade Math
On these testing days, we will have a closed campus for visitors to ensure the best possible testing environment for our students.
By working together, we can make your child’s test experience positive and successful. Here are some suggestions that you can do to help your child succeed.
· Please do not schedule doctor appointments on these testing days.
· Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep.
· Have your child eat a healthy breakfast at home or in our school cafeteria.
· Make sure your child arrives at school on time.
· Encourage your child to do their best.
Attendance Counts!
We are seeing improvements, but still need your help. Please ensure students are arriving to school before 7:45am. Attendance and routines are extremely important for the success of our scholars. If your student is late or absent, they are missing key components for academic success. Let's work together to ensure our scholars are attending school daily and receiving the education they deserve.
Instruction begins promptly at 7:45am. Students arriving after 7:45 are missing GROW Time. GROW Time is extremely crucial for the success of our scholars. During this time teachers are meeting with small groups of students to target their diverse needs. We've carved out this time to provide interventions for every student in K-5th grade.
Doors open at 7:15am and a hot breakfast is served. Plan to begin dropping off at 7:15am to ensure our scholars are on time and ready to receive instruction at 7:45am.
Remember to use the back parking lot for drop off and pick up. The front bus ramp is for buses only. Let's work together to keep our scholars and staff safe.
I appreciate your support and understanding.

A Note from Nurse Eller
Spring is a time for new beginnings, let's start with our nutrition!
Springtime is a time for us to take a step back, evaluate what’s on our plates and focus on making informed food choices. Proper balanced nutrition and physical activity promotes healthy living. Eating well and having a healthy lifestyle can help us feel our best and makes a big difference in our long-term health.
The Eatwell plate is an easy approach and applies to most people whether they’re at a healthy weight or overweight, whether they eat meat or are vegetarian and allows for cultural food choices. The plate shows proportions of each food group rather than specific foods and puts emphasis on balanced nutrition, not good or bad foods.
There are two equally large sections which means these groups combined should take up approximately 66% of our diets. The 33%-YELLOW – bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods and the 33%- GREEN-fruit and vegetables. Of the remaining third a recommended 15%-BLUE-milk and dairy foods and another approximately 12%-PINK-meat, fish, eggs, beans, and other non-dairy sources of protein. The smallest and final section of approximately 7% is PURPLE-food and drinks high in fat and or sugar.
Used along with 8 suggested tips for balanced eating, it is meant to give us an overall approach to our eating rather than on an individual meal basis.
Base your meals on starchy foods Eat lots of fruit and vegetables
Cut down on saturated fats and sugar Eat less salt-no more than 6g daily
Eat more fish with one serving of oily fish weekly Don’t skip breakfast
Get active and try to be a healthy weight Drink plenty of water
