Torey J. has once again been named an official No Place for Hate School by the Anti-Defamation League for the 2022-2023 School Year.

Next week we will have our final attempt to reconnect your child with lost clothing items! Lost and found items will be on display on tables by the front office every day after school next week. All items not claimed will be donated after the school year ends.

Medication Pick-Up Procedures:

If your child currently has a daily or prn (as needed) medication, emergency medication, and/or an asthma or allergy action plan in place at TJS (Epi-Pen or Inhaler in the health office), Medications MUST be picked up by parents (they cannot be returned with your child) before the end of the school year. For your convenience, I will be setting up a table outside of the front office on the black top for you to pick up medication on Tuesday, June 13th at 3:00 pm and Wednesday, June 14th at 12:30 PM. As the school year ends on Wednesday, June 14th, any medication that is left at the school will be disposed of. If these times are not convenient for you, please reach out to me directly to arrange an alternative pick-up time. The student's order will be included with their medication at pick up, as a new prescription will be required for the 2023/2024 school year.

Medication Requirements for the 2023/2024 School Year:

By state law, for any student that requires an asthma action plan or an allergy action plan, an inhaler and/or epi-pen MUST be provided to the school health office for use during the school year. As a reminder, ALL medications, including over the counter medications, must be accompanied by a physician’s order. For your convenience, medication forms for the upcoming 2022/2023 school year can be found at the following link: https://www.madisonpublicschools.org/o/tjs/documents/health-office/allergy-and-asthma-required-forms/452347. You may also access the forms via the TJS website and clicking on the "health office" button.

Medication WILL NOT be accepted without the required forms (signed and stamped by the prescribing MD). All medication must be in the original container, unexpired, with the prescription label attached. For epinephrine auto-injectors, please request your pharmacist attach the label to the Epi-Pen itself and not the box. If your child requires an Epi-Pen, please provide two current pictures. This is helpful for identification purposes so that staff may be made aware of who their allergy students are.

You may deliver your child’s medication and completed medication orders to the school nurse on the first day of school (a drop-off station will be set up on the blacktop). Medication will not be accepted before this date.

Mandatory 5th-Grade Immunizations:

As a reminder, when your child turns 11 years old they are required to have 2 additional vaccinations, Meningococcal and TDAP, in order to enter grade 6 in the fall. As you schedule your child’s well visit around their birthday, please remember to follow up with the necessary immunizations and documentation that is required for entry into school. Every year, the fifth-grade students work in teams to complete a More Than Madison research project about a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal. The students researched goals related to No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Life on Land. The project provided students with opportunities to think globally as they researched as a team and created a presentation about a goal topic. A job well done to our fifth graders and the teachers for supporting them through this meaningful project.

Ms. Dana Skwirut, the children’s librarian at Madison Public Library, has a great program planned, beginning with the kickoff celebration, Tuesday, June, 20! Make sure to stop by the library to sign up. This is a great way to keep reading skills from sliding over the summer.

The Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration is, Tuesday, June 20, 2:00 - 4:00 PM, 39 Keep Street

Drop in anytime from 2-4 pm at this get-together to celebrate the start of the Public Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program! There will be games, crafts, face painting, an opportunity to sign up for the public library’s summer reading club, and more. The first 200 participants receive a tote bag and an extra sweet treat just for signing up!

Then stick around at 4 pm for New Jersey’s Favorite Family Entertainer, Conrad Cologne, who will perform an interactive magic and storytelling program for children and their families! Based on children’s books, stories come to life during the show using magic, interactive storytelling, puppetry, and comedy. The theme of the “Better Together Magic Show” coincides with the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) summer reading theme of “All Together Now”.

The program runs for about 45 minutes and is suitable for children 4-12 and their families. This program will take place in the Chase Room. No registration is required, but be sure to arrive early as they will let the audience in on a first come, first served basis.

Parents are encouraged to check the school website often for the most up-to-date information regarding the new school year. In late August, parents will be notified of when they will be able to log in to the Genesis Parent Portal to complete the required back-to-school forms. Completion of the forms in the portal is required in order to obtain your child's teacher placement and class for the 2023-2024 school year.

Please note that all 2023-2024 Student Supply Lists are posted HERE on our school website. The supply lists are specific to each grade level that your child is entering into. If you are aware of any family that may be in need of financial assistance to purchase school supplies, please don’t hesitate to contact the main office.

We had to make a decision yesterday about the Jamboree, and air quality and weather both were uncertain. We hope you can still join us next Tuesday…fingers crossed for GREAT weather!!

The Madison STEAM Academy returns this summer for its sixth year and is bigger than ever before!

The STEAM Academy offers a hands-on, engaging camp experience for students entering grades 1 through 12 in the 2023-24 school year. With a diverse range of interesting courses, there's an exciting opportunity for every interest! Programming is offered across six week-long sessions in either AM, PM, or full-day options, and enrollment is not limited to Madison residents. Extended day options and tuition assistance are also available to ensure that any interested student can access this amazing program!
