Field Trip to Lansing
Thank you, again, to all of the family members who volunteered to join us on our field trip to Lansing last week! It was an awesome day filled with lots of learning and memory making! Check out a glimpse of our adventure- filled day in the photos I've posted below. 😀
Math
Language Arts
Recently in our Wonders curriculum, we began our third unit-of-study. The beginning of this new unit has focused on the genres of realistic fiction and biographies. During our lessons, we took a closer look at several touchstone texts that helped us to get a firm understanding of the key traits/characteristics that make these two genres unique.
In the area of writing, each of the students began brainstorming a list of possible realistic fiction story topics and will soon get the chance to begin drafting their very own stories in this genre-of-focus!
Science/ Social Studies
This week, we concluded our Social Studies unit focusing on the three branches of government. After returning from Thanksgiving break, we will begin our next Mystery Science unit: Waves of Sound. In these first few upcoming lessons, we will begin by discussing our various background knowledge/ ideas regarding sound, (i.e.. what it is and how we believe it is produced). Then, students will have a chance to put their initial sound theories to the test and participate in a hands-on experiment where they will construct their own paper cup telephones and take turns listening for and creating sounds back and forth with partners. I can't wait to see all of this new learning in-action! :)
