A Fantastic Start to the School Year!
Message from the Principal
Dear Kimball Hill Families,
We're thrilled with the positive energy and enthusiasm that filled our school this week. Students and staff have been connecting, building a strong community, and creating a welcoming learning environment.
Thank You to Our Amazing Team:
- Our dedicated staff: For their hard work in providing a nurturing space for our students.
- Our custodial team: For maintaining a clean and comfortable school.
- Our PTA: For their ongoing support and efforts to welcome families and teachers. We loved our Back to School signs and yummy treats!
- Our parents: For their partnership and positive start to the year. Chalk the Walk messages have brightened our days!
As we move forward, we encourage you to connect with your child's teacher to address any immediate needs. They are available to support your child and ensure a positive learning experience. Please share important information like allergies, pick-up arrangements, or transportation details with your child's teacher.
We hope to see everyone at our Back To School Bash on September 11th at 6:00-7:15pm.
Our school will also be open on September 10th from 4:30-6:oo to any community member that would like to see our amazing addition.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback. We're here to support you and your child throughout the school year.

Student Technology and Devices
Kindergarten students will receive iPads this year. These devices will be integrated into our curriculum to enhance learning. Students in grades K-2nd will have access to touchscreen Chromebooks, and 3rd graders will receive new touchscreen devices and be 1:1. Chromebooks in grades 3rd-5th will be allowed to go home daily. It's important to remind students to use these devices responsibly, as broken or lost items may incur fees.
Please discuss with your child the importance of using their devices solely for school purposes.
Cell phones and Apple or smart watches are prohibited in school and on the bus. If your child needs to bring a phone or watch, it must be turned off or silenced and kept out of sight. This is a district policy, and non-compliance may result in consequences. We understand the need for these devices after school, but it's crucial that they are not used during school hours. If your child requires assistance, there are always adults available throughout the school day.
MAP Testing
Each year, District 15 students in grades 2 through 8 participate in an academic assessment called the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). The MAP test measures your child’s achievement in reading and math. Most students complete the MAP in less than 40 minutes. This assessment provides our staff with valuable information that helps in planning instruction and tracking student growth. Students take the MAP twice annually—once in September and again in May. For more detailed information, please visit the District Assessment Calendar on our District 15 website. Ensuring your child is well-rested and prepared for the MAP test can positively impact their performance. To help your child practice for the MAP test, you can visit the MAP practice site at: http://bit.ly/PracticeMAPTest.
The MAP test results help school staff identify each student's reading and math skills, allowing them to tailor instruction to focus on specific areas for improvement. Additionally, the test results are used to monitor your child's academic growth over time. MAP test results from the fall and spring testing periods will be available to parents via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. These results are typically posted in October and June.
For more information about the MAP test, please contact your child’s teacher or download the MAP Parent Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/.

Station Rotation
This week, we'll be conducting our annual station rotations. During these rotations, we explicitly teach and reinforce behavior expectations in unstructured areas like hallways, bathrooms, lunch, and recess. This proactive approach helps students understand and follow the expected behaviors in these settings. We re-teach these expectations through station rotations at the beginning of the school year and after winter break
