Picking Your Child Up Early?
If you need to pick your child up early from school, please call about 5 minutes before you arrive. The office can call your child down so they are here when you arrive. We prefer to have early pick ups completed by 3:45 p.m. After 3:45 p.m., it becomes challenging to get students because they are wrapping up their day and getting ready to go home.
If you are picking up early between 3 & 3:45 p.m., please park on the street. Otherwise, you will get stuck in the parent pick up line.
Going Out for Recess?
Our students have two recesses each day. They go out before lunch and again with their teacher in the afternoon. However, weather can sometimes impact going outside.
Per our parent handbook:
All students will be given approximately 20 minutes each day for recess. Please be sure your student is dressed appropriately for the weather. We will have indoor recess if there is rain, lightning, or if air temperatures reach 0 degrees and/or wind chills reach 10 degrees below zero. Decisions impacting recess will be based on local conditions at the time of recess and according to weather.gov. We are not able to accommodate requests for a student to remain inside for recess unless a doctor’s note has been submitted to the health office.

Winter Reminders
Student Outdoor Gear
Be sure that your child has all of their outdoor gear labeled with their name. We have a very limited supply of items for students to borrow for recess.
Snow Day Info
- If winter weather conditions force school closures this year, families should not expect instruction to occur. Should an e-learning day be announced, families will receive an email with specific information from their child's teachers.
Families will not receive a “We’ll be open tomorrow” message during wintery weather evenings. Always assume schools will remain in session, until you hear or see differently from Mounds View Public Schools.
Within 20 minutes of a decision to close schools, families will receive text, voicemail and email messages. Make sure your contact information is current in ParentVUE. Instructions can be found here.
Want your student to also receive an alert? Parents can add their student’s cell phone for emergency text alerts in ParentVUE. Here’s how.
If you've blocked ANY previous text messages from us in the past, you won't receive any emergency alerts. To unblock your cell phone, contact your school's front office.

The time commitment is approximately 9:30-11:00 a.m., mostly on Fridays throughout the school year.

Amazon Wishlist
We are excited to share the Amazon Wishlist we are hosting on behalf of the Valentine Hills Staff!. This will be an evergreen list that staff will continue to add to as their needs change and we will share it throughout the year. Each item will have a teacher or staff member's name and urgency listed next to it. There is obviously no obligation at all but we are just excited to help support staff in any extra way we can. If you choose to order an item, we ask that you please add the staff member's name in the gift message to help get it to the correct person.
