A note from our principal, Sra. Perez
The school fundraiser is in full swing!! We have some students with strong sales skills, I have already been approached by several! The funds being raised will be used to support students and provide further educational opportunities for students. Thank you for supporting your children during the fundraiser!!
I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Adi Stovall for being a wonderful addition to the front office to fill in when people are out. She is extremely flexible, approaches each task with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She is the kind of person you want with you during a stressful situation or when you need a person to bounce ideas off of!
We have been extremely fortunate to have so many giving parents and other volunteers contribute to the school in a variety of ways, everything you do is important, and you provide strong roll models for our students as well as they love seeing their families in the building.
Please donโt forget, the third Friday of the month I host a โCoffee and Conversationโ meeting. This time is set aside for anyone to come in to talk, I look forward to having people check in with me in my office. It is a relaxed time to get to know one another, one of my favorite times of the month. My next one is on October 18th, 2024 after you drop off your child, come on by my office.
- Reading gap
It's normal for students to appear behind in both languages as they progress in the program. This is a good sign that their brain is immersed in both languages.
- Reading advantage
Students in DLI programs may have an advantage when learning to read because they are proficient in their primary language.
- Reading outcomes
Research shows that students in DLI programs outperform their peers in reading. For example, one study found that students in DLI programs outperformed their peers by seven months in grade five and nine months in grade eight.
- Other benefits
DLI programs can also help students build cognitive skills, cultural competency, and theory of mind. Theory of mind is the ability to imagine what others are thinking and feeling, which is closely related to empathy.
- Language learning process
It can take three to five years to see the full effect of the bilingual benefits.

We need your generosity once again, please start sending in pumpkins to school, donate all the pumpkins you wish. We need medium and large pumpkins, ideally one for each student.
We encourage you to volunteer and come help that day, October 30th @ 11:45 for set-up in the gym, and then stay from 12:40-2:00 to help with the supervision of carving.

Got free time?
We always have random projects around the school, or copies to be made! If you have free time, please stop by the front office any time! Remember, you are required to fulfill 36 volunteer hours per school year! 4 hours per month will get you there by the end of the school year.
