Programs Coming Soon:
Appreciate a Dragon (and Friends!) Party
On April 5th from 12:00-1:30PM, dragons will return to Schuylerville Public Library... AND THEY ARE BRINGING FRIENDS!
Every year the dragons come back to their favorite nesting grounds to lay their eggs - the library of course! The young and young-at-heart are invited to become OFFICIAL dragon rehabilitators. Kids will collect eggs on our dragon egg hunt and "release them" into our special incubators.
There may also be some suprises of the horned and hooved variety, along with some other mythical friends. If your kiddo is a fan of fantastical creatures - they will surely love our party. Don't forget to bring your favorite dragon for our dragon parade!
Event schedule:
12:15 Dragon rehabilitation "class"
12:30 - Dragon egg and evidence hunt
1:00 - Story time
1:15 - Parade
Craft tables and snacks are available through-out.
We hope to see you there!
Community Storytime: the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere
On April 17th at 11:30AM, an educator from the Saratoga County Historian's Office will visit the library to read a book about Paul Revere, discuss the importance of his midnight ride 250 years ago, and distribute materials to create luminaries to participate in the nation-wide "Two Lights for Tomorrow" commemoration on April 18th.
Recommended for ages 5-10, but open to all ages and abilities. No registration necessary.
Books & Bunnies Storytime Plus Rabbit Meet & Greet
Our friends at Hop on Home, a local rabbit rescue, are returning to the library to host Books & Bunnies Storytime! Join us for an animal-themed story time, learn how to care for bunnies, and even pet some of the rescue's rabbits! Registration is required and can be found here.
Immediately following the story time, the 4-H Domestic Rabbit Club will be hosting a Meet and Greet, where you can see a variety of bunny breeds and learn more about them from their owners. No registration necessary for the meet and greet, please come on by!

Fairy Tale Gardens with the Schuylerville Garden Club
Our Library is excited to collaborate once again with the Schuylerville Garden Club to help area youth learn about gardening!
This year's project is to create a fairy garden, and to design the garden to be based upon a traditional Fairy Tale of their choosing. The Flower Show workshops on May 17th and June 28th provide a unique opportunity for participants to interact and learn from Schuylerville Garden Club members.
The first workshop on May 17th is an overview of the project. Participants will be able to pick out some preliminary materials and to choose a fairy tale theme to upon which to base their fairy garden design.
The second workshop on 6/28 is to put everything together, and create a fairy garden that will be displayed at the Schuylerville Garden Club's NGC Standard Flower Show on July 12 and 13.
After the Flower Show, participants can collect their creations to keep and maintain at home.

Fandom Fam
Ages 10-15 are invited to join us for a celebration of our favorite fandoms. It's like a comic con, but way smaller and maybe not as amazing (but like, really close)
Love fantasy, sci-fi, anime, manga, comics, gaming, and/or animation? This may be the club for you. We meet up once a month to casually hang out with snacks, optional low-key crafts, and throw something on the TV. Stop by after school to relax and hang with your people
We will be watching anime, movies, and shows that are rated 14 or PG-13.
Drop-ins welcome. Know you're coming? Registration helps us plan for how many to expect. Register here.

Library Expansion Updates:
Thank You to Our Donors!
Recently, we have received two incredibly generous pledges towards the Library Expansion Project. Thank you to Stewart's for their $50,000 pledge and to the Fort Miller Group for their $75,000 pledge!
There are cards available for library patrons to sign at the circulation desk to thank both of these organizations for the remarkable contributions they are making towards our community. If you haven't already, stop by to write a quick note of appreciation.
ASPL's Turning a Page Capital Campaign
As many of you have already heard, the library is looking to expand our physical space to better serve our community. Financial and community support is needed in order to make our dream of a better-sized facility a reality. The photo below is a rendering of what the completed expansion would look like. The blueprint to the left details what features and spaces our library will include after finishing the renovation.
There will be a public vote in August of this year for the community to decide if they are ready for the Library to move forward with this expansion. Additionally, the Advocates for the Schuylerville Public Library will be fundraising for the project with a financial goal of $200,000.
With 57 years since our last capital campaign and major expansion, we understand how significant this change is. When it was completed in 1968, our current building was built to serve just over 1,400 residents. After transitioning from a Village Library to a School District Library in 2013, we now provide service to just over 10,000 residents. Our goal has been and continues to be to serve our community to the best of our ability, and our greatest limitation to that at present is our physical space.

Question of the Month!
It's a new month, with a new opportunity to learn a little bit about our staff. Each month we ask the staff a question and post the response here in the newsletter. We'd love to hear your response to the question the next time you stop into the library! This month we posed:
Spring is full of lots of scents, both good and not so good. So, what is one of your favorite smells?
Caitlin: "Basil and cinnamon are my top two."
Julie: "One of my favorite Springtime scents is Korean Spice Viburnum growing outside the library at our main entrance. Enchanting!"
Holly: "My favorite scent is probably vanilla or baked goods... Anything sweet and smells like it would be good to eat."
Emilly: "Fresh baked brownies is one of my favorite smells."
Jessica: "I love pine tree (Christmas), and citrus for candle-y scents. Fresh baked bread or pie for foods. Laundry off the clothesline."
Beth: "One of my favorite smells is garlic and onions sauteing on the stove! However, if we're talking spring-y scents, I'm fond of lavender."
Brandi: "I have many lilac bushes; many more than my tiny yard should have. We planted one right outside our window so every time there is a nice spring breeze the house is filled with my favorite flowers' smells, lovely lilacs!"
Mary Lou: "I enjoy bouquets of both Lilacs and Lilies of the Valley both of which grown in my yard. It is great to just go out and pick a bouquet to bring inside, or to sit outside and breath in the scents. And nothing quite beats the smell of the grass after the first mow of the year!!
