Cedar Students Attend the What's Next Tour
Recently, Cedar High School students had the opportunity to visit the Bremerton Olympic College campus for the What's Next Tour. During the tour, students learned about the programs on the Bremerton campus and the supports available. Culinary, cosmetology, digital design, welding, medical transcription, RN, childcare, entrepreneurship, technical design programs, and financial aid information.
A huge shout out to these awesome students, Kisako from OC, the CTE department, Shelly for providing sack lunches and bonus candy, and bus driver, Lori, for a great day and inspiring trip!
Congrats Shelton Climber Company!
Shelton Climber Company had a great day of competition and camaraderie during their recent drill meet! Teams, duos and individual cadets placed in nine categories!

As always, our cadets continue to impress with their dedication and hard work. A huge thank you to all of the friends, family and community members who came out to support the Shelton High School NJROTC program!
NAMI Visits Shelton
On Thursday, February 22nd, the second Parent/Family Education Night was hosted at Olympic Middle School in the evening. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) presented 'Ending the Silence for Families' - a presentation that spoke on mental health warning signs, tips for talking to young people about mental health, and how to work with your student's school.
The last Parent/Family Education Night, of this school year, will be held on Thursday, April 18th with a presentation about dealing with vaping in minors. More details will be released soon.

Shelton School District’s enrollment window is now open! The open enrollment window will run now through April 19, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. for:
- Kindergarten
- Dual Language Program
- In-District Transfers
- Out-of-District Transfer
Every student in Shelton School District is automatically assigned to their attendance area school, based on where they live. Families can also choose to apply to request that their student attends a different school and/or apply for the Dual Language Program through the Open Enrollment/Transfer Request Process.
Recruiting Interpreters for Spring Conferences
Shelton School District is looking for people who are fluent in Spanish, Mam, and/or Q’anjob’al and English who can help with interpretations. Paid hourly, as needed. Are you eligible for our McKinney-Vento program?
You may be eligible for services if you or your family live in any of the following situations:
- In a shelter, transitional housing, motel, vehicle, campground, or on the street
- In an abandoned building, trailer, or other inadequate accommodations
- Temporarily doubled-up with friends or relatives because you lost your home, or cannot afford housing
- Living as an unaccompanied youth without your parent or guardian
- In the process of eviction or foreclosure
Some services offered to those in the program are Immunization assistance, Enrollment assistance, Free meal registration, School supplies/backpacks, PE uniforms, Clothing support, Hygiene supplies, School fees, Field trip or camp expenses, Laundry support, Transportation to and from the school of origin, Access to rental and utility assistance, Referrals to basic services (food, shelter, medical assistance, etc.), Bilingual support for Spanish speakers, And more!

Did you know that you could receive school notifications as text messages? This includes messages about school closures, delays, low or negative meal balances, and more! Opt-in today by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587.
Student & Family Resource Center
Are you in need of something? We can probably help! Our resource center has a clothing bank with clothing for all ages. All of the clothing is either new or laundered before entering the bank. A household item bank may also have what you need: bedding, small kitchen appliances, and more! The newest addition to the SFRC is the food bank and hygiene bank. If you are looking for a community connection, the SFRC can help you connect with the right resource.

It is the SFRC's goal to help every family find the information and resources available to ensure the most successful outcome from their educational experience in their respective schools. Please consider partnering with us this year, and thank you in advance for your contribution.
If you would like to help keep our food bank and clothing bank stocked, the following are our 'high-need' items: maseca, rice, beans, individually packed snack items, baby clothing, elementary-school-age sized clothing, new underwear, and black leggings in all sizes.

The State & Federal Programs Department offers services and resources to eligible students to eliminate the achievement gap between student subgroups. We are committed to connecting with students, families, and the community to provide the education needed to achieve academic and personal success. Get Involved
Native American Education Program Parent Advisory Meeting
You are invited to our next Native American Education Program Parent Advisory meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 13th from 6-7:30pm at Mt. View Elementary. The Native Ed Grant will be read, our PAC members will share upcoming fundraising opportunities, and you will hear what our Native Ed staff is doing in our buildings. A light meal will be served

Volunteer in our schools
By volunteering your time, you may be asked to read a book to a classroom, help with a literacy activity, or more! Please expect to volunteer about one hour of your time. The school(s) you are interested in volunteering at will contact you with further details along with the required volunteer paperwork. We are very grateful for your interest and look forward to seeing you in our schools!

Students in the Watershed Internship for Hood Canal Students
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group has an awesome after-school PAID internship for students, called Students in the Watershed.

StreamTeam Summer Internship for Hood Canal Students
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group is a local nonprofit that has been conducting salmon research, restoration and education around the Hood Canal watershed for over 30 years.
Every summer they offer their StreamTeam internship, where students learn valuable skills for any career related to fisheries, environmental science, biology, and ecology. They get hands-on monitoring experience on several Hood Canal rivers and streams, and the data they collect helps the organization with future habitat restoration and fish research programs.
This program is only available to local students! It's a great program where students are working outside gaining valuable experience in the field - plus they get a stipend.

Spring Youth Sports
SEASON STARTS APRIL 8 - Join us for fun, skill-building, and teamwork in our YMCA Youth Recreational Sports League, where we nurture young athletes to grow as individuals by facing challenges, forging new friendships, and learning values that they can use both on and off the court.

Great Bend Center for Music
Sound Scholars is a fun, daily, online class for kids ages 3-5 that uses music to build kindergarten readiness and prosocial learning skills in English, Spanish, Mam and Q'anjob'al at no cost to participating families.

Huff 'n Puff Memorial
The Shelton School District is working with the Shelton Rotary Club to update the student memorial at the Huff 'N Puff trailhead. If you are aware of a high school or middle school student who was attending the Shelton School District and who passed away before reaching graduation, please reach out to Abe Gardner at 360-801-9555 by March 15, 2024. We appreciate your help in making sure all students are honored.
