Principal's Message
Dear VVMS Parents and Families,
Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you had a relaxing summer with family and friends. I will be excited to see all our students back learning in classrooms, socializing at lunch, and participating in extra-curricular activities.
It is our priority to help students transition back to full-time learning this fall. We recognize that this transition is different than any other school year. Our staff is working on building-wide plans for meeting the academic and social needs of our students. Through culture-building activities during our first week of school, we have a plan for helping every child feel welcome. This effort will begin on September 8, our first day of school for 7th graders, as our WEB leaders begin their mentorship of our 7th grade students. WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) advisors - Mrs. Morello, Ms. Tuggle, and Mrs. May - will kick off our school year by transitioning our new 7th graders to school on September 8th with our 8th grade WEB leaders.
Information about health and safety measures for schools has been coming out from Governor Inslee and the Washington State Department of Health. We do know that masks will continue to be required at all K-12 schools in the State. Please continue to watch for Snohomish School District and Valley View communications regarding health and safety guidelines as we approach the opening of our school building in late August.
This year, we have several new faculty members, or faculty members that have moved into new positions are: Ed Kowalski (Science), Jennifer Dixon (Science), Beth Wiess (Life Skills), Kathy Kramer (Math), Asya Galenko (Resource), Alison Damboise (Speech Language Pathologist), Kelly Daniels (Physical Therapist), and Philippa Farrell (Interim Assistant Principal).
After serving as assistant principal for the past six years, I am looking forward to my new role as principal this year. If you have any questions, please contact me at brian.burdon@sno.wednet.edu, or 360-563-4229. Additionally, our assistant principals, Philippa Farrell (student last names A-K) and Brenda Weyhrauch (student last names L-Z) are here to support you as well.
I hope to meet you during our Viking Days on August 24th and 25th. We look forward to a great start back with all our students this fall.
Sincerely,
Brian Burdon
Principal (Interim)
