Dear Luce Caregivers,

I hope you had a great weekend. Last week was a short week, and our students were ready to be back to learning. This week is a full week. Please read this week's Smore for the latest about the Luce including information on how to sign up for the Grades 2-5 Robotics/STEam club.

School Parking Lot Concerns

We ask that you refrain from parking in the fire lane at the entrance of the driveway or near the stop sign in the parking lot. I’ve noticed some unsafe practices during drop-off and pick-up times. Our priority is to ensure a safe environment for all, especially for our students.

Arrival/Drop-off Safety Reminders

Please remain in your car during drop-off unless you are parked in a designated space.
Do not leave your car idling.
For students in grades 2-5, please pull up to the front entrance.
For students in kindergarten and 1st grade, please pull up to the K doors.
Never let your child out on the side of traffic.
Drive no faster than 5 mph in the parking lot.

School Safety Update

To enhance the safety of our students, your children, and our staff, we ask for your cooperation with a few important procedures:
1. Please Do Not Hold Doors Open: You may have noticed new signs at our entrances requesting that visitors do not hold doors open for others. Please refrain from doing so, as it helps maintain building security.
2. Early Dismissals: If you are picking up your child early, they will meet you at the front doors for dismissal.
3. Picking Up a Sick Child: If your child is feeling unwell, please proceed to the nurse's office for pick-up.
We appreciate your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Grades 2-5 Robotics / STEAM Club

Session 2 of the Elementary Robotics/STEAM Club will be starting the week of January 27th.

This afterschool program will focus on skills associated with Robotics, Computer Science, Coding and STEAM activities.
Students will be chosen by lottery due to a limited number of seats although students who did not participate in Session 1 Robotics will be prioritized.

The club runs for an hour after school on the following days and times:

Luce 3:00-4:00
Hansen 3:00-4:00
JFK 3:30-4:30

Grades 2-3 (Monday)

Jan. 27

Feb 3, 10, 24

March 3, 10, 17, 24

April 7, 14

Grades 4-5 (Thursday)

Jan 30

Feb 6, 13, 27

March 6, 13, 20, 27

If you are interested in having your child participate in the Robotics / STEAM Club, please complete this Interest Form by January 16th. Emails will be sent the week of January 20th updating families on students who have been selected via lottery for the Robotics Club.

Nurse Bonner's Nifty Notes

We are happy to be back in school and want to keep everyone healthy into this new year. Respiratory illnesses including, RSV, COVID-19 and Influenza are on the rise. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/respiratory-illness-reporting

Make sure to keep your student home if they have a fever, have been vomiting or having diarrhea for the past 24hrs. Review with your child how to wash their hands and to do it frequently. Not all viruses and bacteria can be washed with hand sanitizer so when in doubt wash with soap and water!

CAPT Updates

Save the date for our next CAPT Meeting on Tuesday, January 14th at 7 PM. This meeting will take place in the Luce library. If you plan to take advantage of our childcare so that you can attend the meeting, please let us know by completing this Childcare Request Form.

Dining for Dollars

Our next Dining for Dollars will be on Wednesday, January 8th at Takara! Takara will donate 20% of all lunch and dinner sales when you mention the Luce.

Luce Play Volunteers Needed!

Alice in Wonderland will debut on Friday, February 28th, and Saturday, March 1st. Please consider signing up to be a rehearsal monitor here. If you are able to help with costumes, photography, set building, cast party, sponsorship or other important play tasks please sign up

District Updates

Demographic Verification and District Permissions

Dear Families,

We are pleased to inform you that the PowerSchool Parent/Guardian Portal is now open for you to review and update your demographic information, as well as manage media, handbook and device permissions for your student. This process will help ensure that your contact information is current and that you’ve provided the necessary permissions for the use of media and technology in our educational programs.

To assist you with this process, we have created a series of helpful slides and a video that guide you step-by-step through updating your information in PowerSchool. These resources are available to help make the process as simple and straightforward as possible. And, please see a summarized set of steps to follow in the graphic below to access the Demographic Verification and CPS Handbook

Please take a moment to complete these updates as soon as you are able. Should you need any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out—we are here to support you.

If you have any problems logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal system, adding another student to your PowerSchool account, or you’d like your student(s)’ Access ID and Password re-sent, please submit your issue on THIS GOOGLE FORM. A member of our tech team will respond back within 48 hours.

PowerSchool Text Messaging Feature

We're excited to enhance our communication with you through Powerschool, our new portal for student information. To access your child's academic progress, attendance records, and more, please visit the PowerSchool Parent/Guardian sign in page. If you need to request your credentials to set up an account for the Powerschool Parent Portal, please submit a request here.

In addition to the portal, we're introducing a convenient text messaging feature to keep you updated on important school announcements. To opt in, simply text Y or yes to 67587.
