Dolphin Splash Updates!
2024-2025
Welcome Back to School!
It's just about that time again! We have been busy getting ready for our teachers to return on Wednesday and our students the following week. We can't wait to see all our students smiling faces again! The building just isn't the same without them.
We have been busy getting the inside of our building ready for our students and staff! We need your help to get the outside ready! We will have a DDE campus beautification day on Saturday August 24th from 9am-12pm. We need help with weeding, trimming, and just basically making our campus look better. No gardening experience necessary! We will have to take away all the trimmings off campus, so if you have any paper garden bags we would appreciate it if you can bring them with you. Please bring any gardening tools you have to make the jobs go even quicker. Children are welcome (parents must monitor their own children) and Ms. Fair and Ms. Todd will have popsicles available for the kids :) This event is a great way to bring our community together, meet other DDE families, and teach the children how we can take pride in our school. Sign up form is below, just so we can get an idea of how many people will be attending. While the time frame is from 9am-12pm, feel free to come when you can. Many hands make light work! Remember to bring a water bottle! Thank you for your support :)
Below you will see information on Meet the Teacher date/times (Kindergarten has a staggered entry check in and their own meet the teacher on August 30th) as well as supply lists and volunteer registration. WCPSS has changed the volunteer process for the better :) I encourage anyone who will want to come into our school or go on a field trip to register (see below). The process is much quicker and can be done from a home computer.
For those of you returning to DDE, welcome back. We will be better than ever! For those of you who are new to our school, welcome! Principal newsletters will come out weekly. Reading the newsletter as well as visiting our school website will be the best way to keep you up to date on happenings and deadlines at school.
The first day of school for students is Tuesday August 27th. Kindergarten staggered entry information is below.
More information will be coming in the next newsletter such as carpool and arrival/dismissal procedures.
Have a great last week of summer!

Kindergarten Staggered Entry
All Kindergarten students will come to school one day the first week of school: August 27, 28, or 29. Students will be individually assessed and introduced to the school. Our Kindergarten team will create class lists on Thursday.
Your child’s staggered entry day will be organized alphabetically by last name.
A-H: Tuesday August 27th
I-P : Wednesday August 28th
Q-Z: Thursday August 29th
Please turn in North Carolina Health Assessment and updated immunization record to school before September 3rd.
Transportation
Bus Routes:
You can view bus routes on Aug 17, 18, and 19, for those who qualify in your child’s PowerSchool account. Power School will be shut down for the loading of students into classes and will be available again on August 24th. Requests for those who have not previously ridden the bus must be submitted by families on the magenta form at https://www.wcpss.net/busrider. Bus transportation is not guaranteed for the first day of school if you are submitting the request now. Please contact Rozanne Todd at rtodd@wcpss.net with any transportation questions.
Transportation Tags:
ALL students will receive a transportation tag this year. These tags will be used for carpool as well as walkers, and bus riders. We use these for the safety of our students as well as to streamline the dismissal process. Two tags will be given to each family. It is important for the children to know their transportation tag number. There is no need to sign up for these tags as we will be giving each family two tags with the beginning of year paperwork. All children in a family will have the same number. You will need these numbers/tag whenever picking up your children in carpool or walking. Even if your child is a bus rider, please keep these in your car so if there is a change in dismissal for your child it will keep dismissal running smoothly.
