The Mustang Memo!
Madrona Elementary School - February 19, 2024
A message from Mrs. Mandell
Hello Mustang Families,
Thank you to all of our familes for your support of our APEX Mustang Mile event! This is our school wide fundraiser that supports all our extras here at Madrona - specialists in dance, art, music, and PE, as well as field trip support and all the wonderful activities run by our amazing PTA. If you missed the fundraiser but are interested in supporting Madrona, please email our PTA at
madronacapta@gmail.com. Lastly, PTA has See's Candy available to purchase...please see the flyer in the PTA News section below!
Madrona students and staff completed the final chapters of our One School, One Book - The Adventures of Humphrey! Our Mustangs enjoyed all of the activities at school and hopefully, you enjoyed the activities at home, too. Thank you to all of our readers - staff, parents, and students. We hope to bring this program back to our school next year with another book title. We continue to encourage all our Mustang families to read, read, read!
Moving forward in February, classess continue to discover the contributions Black Americans made to our nation.
This week, our school counselor, Mrs. Sabory, will visit with our upper grade classes to discuss all things communication-in person, written, and online. Please ask your Mustangs to share their new learning with you.
Just a reminder that if your student would like to be a part of our performance groups - Strings, Band, and Chorus, please see the sign up information below. We welcome both returning and new students to join these activities to become part of our talented group at Madrona.
As always, we continue to encourage all Mustangs to follow our rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Prepared.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mandell
Principal

February is Black History Month!
This month we celebrate Black Americans and the contributions they have made to our nation and our world. From scientists to educators, artists, poets, musicians, and government leaders, our students will be learning about their contributions and inspiring us all to make our world better for all people.
Music classes focus on Louis Armstrong this week!
To celebrate Black History Month, all the music classes are learning about Louis Armstrong. This past week, we watched a video about his life. In our next classes, we will be listening to Louis Armstrong sing What a Wonderful World. Thank you Mrs. Sobrino for enriching our Mustangs with the wonder of music!
February 10, 2024: Year of the Dragon 🐉
'Gong hei fat choy' | 恭喜发财
What does that mean? It's a common Cantonese Chinese New Year greeting that means wishing you prosperity and good fortune. In China, Chinese New Year is known as chūnjié (春节), or Spring Festival. While it’s the coldest time of the year where we live, it marks the turn-around in seasons, when people begin to look forward to spring (and in the old days, new planting). It symbolizes new beginnings and fresh starts.
