The Howl
Greetings Wolf Pack!
On behalf of the entire SPASD community we want to say THANK YOU to our community for supporting the referendum this last week. We are excited for the opportunities it will allow us to continue to provide to our students. As we continue through November we continue to celebrate Native American Heritage Month, as well as, this week we commemorate Veteran's Day and Trans Awareness Week. As we move forward past Tuesday's election we continue to live into our identity as a Wolf PACK (pride, accountability, collaboration and kindness) as we live into our SP West Equity Vision and our school board's equity statement each and every day. Sun Prairie West High School is an intentional school community where students, staff and families feel seen, valued and heard. We work to: understand our own story and the story of others, identify and eliminate barriers; problem solve solutions; build relationships; actively listen to and lift the voices of our students, in order to create equitable opportunities and outcomes. Our community supports and empowers high expectations for all students and all staff so that all students are college, career and community ready.

We continue to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with current Native American youth, actors from the Netflix show: "Rez Ball". Hear about their favorite parts of their culture.
Trans Awareness Week
This week we begin the recognition of Trans Awareness Week to help increase understanding about transgender people and the issues members of the community face.
Trans Awareness Week takes place the week before Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence that year. The recognition of this week is in alignment and brings to life our school board's equity statement
Veteran's Day
November is also the month of the Military Family and tomorrow we honor our Veteran's within our community. Are you or a family member of a Wolf a Veteran? Please send us a picture and let us know your Wolf connection and we will celebrate them throughout the day tomorrow and throughout the rest of the month as we honor our military families. Take a look at this throwback photo of our very own School Resource Officer, Officer Royse Sessums and his daughter (also a Wolf), Isla upon his return from his second tour to Iraq. Thank you Royse for your service to us as a community every day, for your service to our country and to your family, including Isla for their support of you and your service. Please share your pictures with us so we can highlight them as well!
Mid-Semester Grades in IC
We are officially half way through the semester. Mid-semester progress grades will be posting to IC early this week. This is a snapshot in time and a great time to connect with your student about their progress in classes, comparing their progress to their goals and supporting to help them make a plan for the remainder of the semester. Please reach out to their teacher if you have any questions.
Food Drive
As we enter the holiday season and the winter months many in our community are in need of assistance. Did you know that Sun Prairie Areas Schools and SP West are experiencing the highest levels of students in housing transition in our history? This also means we have many families experiencing food insecurity. We have two upcoming food drives. The current drive is accepting donations until Thanksgiving break in the front office through Team Anjani. Following Thanksgiving and into December we will have a schoolwide food drive competition through SP30.
Spirit of Giving- Holiday Assistance
Spirit of Giving - Holiday Assistance (Application closes 11/15!)

If you are looking for assistance, and your family has qualified for free/reduced lunch for the current school year, the SPASD Nutrition Department should have contacted you by phone, text, and/or email with registration information that opens November 1st and closes November 15!

Bus Delays and Emergencies
Please remember that buses may be slightly delayed when we are experiencing snow and icy conditions. Anything within 5 minutes of the scheduled arrival time is considered “on time.”
If your child’s bus is delayed and/or evacuated for any reason (bus breakdown, emergency, etc.) students must stay with the driver and wait for further instructions. If another bus is dispatched, students are to ride that bus and only get off at their assigned stop.

Nutrition and Native American and Indigenous People's Month
November is National Native American and Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month! As we honor and celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Native Americans and Indigenous Peoples, every Sun Prairie school will be providing a special meal to mark this important month. On the 22nd, lunch provided the following: Fish Sandwich, long grain and wild rice, roasted butternut squash, blueberries, and strawberries. The meal highlighted traditional flavors and ingredients cherished in Native American cuisine, most closely resembling the diets of Ojibew (Chippewa) Ho-Chunk Nation, and Menominee tribes.
