A Note From Principal Chantal Ligtenberg
School is officially underway! If you have any questions or concerns please don’t
hesitate to reach out to us. We want to hear from you!
Classroom Snacks/Birthday Treats:
Please do not bring home-baked goods for classroom parties/birthdays. We have many students with allergies and dietary restrictions. Packaged goodies allow our teachers to see the specific ingredients and amounts that make up the product and whether or not certain students can partake. In addition, we are asking all parents of students with allergies and/or certain dietary restrictions to have extra snacks that remain in the classroom for days that your student is unable to partake in a snack brought by another student.
Lunchroom Guests:
We love seeing our students have guests during lunch, but we ask that our VIP tables only have our student and their guest sit together. Unfortunately, there is not enough room for friends to sit at the table as well.
Orange Flag Days:
On days when the weather conditions are rainy, very windy, or in the zero degree range, an orange flag will be placed in a location by the west entrance near the playground, the bus entrance, and the southeast area of the school. When this flag is up, the children may enter the front doors of the school and report to the following areas: Kindergarten: STEM Room, 1st, 3rd, 4th grade: in their hallways 2nd grade: Cafeteria
Phones and Smart Watches:
We realize that many of our students come to school with communication devices. We ask that these devices stay in their backpack or are programmed to not be on until the end of the day. If there is any emergency, the student will be able to contact you through the school phone.
Morning Drop Off Procedures:
Please pull into a parking spot when dropping off your students in the morning in the parent parking lot. This allows traffic to continue to flow through and students to safely cross using the crosswalk where the Crossing Guard is present. Reminder that all students, including breakfast students, should be dropped off in the parent parking lot. Only busses and approved daycare vans are allowed in the permit only parking lot.
After School Procedures:
Please use the sidewalks and crosswalks when walking up to the school to pick up your students - our crossing guards will guide you when it safe to cross.
Staff is present to ensure the safety of our students and their families!
Below is a new requirement with FERPA - ALL parents must complete this form
for the 24/25 school year.

Free and Reduced Meal Information and Application
Help us maintain our Title I Funding by filling out reduced meal applications!
Unfortunately, the number of Free and Reduced Meal Application has dropped since COVID-19 and this puts our Title I funding at risk for our district.
By having more families complete the application, the district can demonstrate a higher level of need to secure and maintain Title I federal funding.
The information provided on the application is confidential, and staff will not have access to the specific details of your application.
Titan Family Portal is now LINQ Connect! Parents can deposit money directly into their child's meal account and can receive emails by clicking on the link "LINQConnect Family Portal" website and setting up an account.

4th Grade Spotlight
This month, fourth grade has been rocking and rolling during Rock Your School Week! Our students enjoyed an exciting event called Rocking Rotations, where they had the chance to rotate through different classrooms, participating in a variety of fun, rock and roll-themed activities.
Here’s a glimpse of the awesome events we had:
- Musical Chairs with Mr. Hyde kept everyone on their toes, blending fun and friendly competition!
- Karaoke with Mrs. Kesl allowed students to showcase their singing talents and belt out their favorite hits.
- A thrilling Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament hosted by Mrs. Marolt brought out the competitive spirit in everyone.
- Rock and Roll Bingo with Mrs. Fallon was a hit, as students marked their cards while enjoying classic rock tunes.
Desk Drums hosted by Mrs. Hedderman was awesome, everyone got to show off their amazing musical skills and learned to keep a rockin tune!
It was a fantastic week filled with laughter, teamwork, and creativity. We can’t wait to share more of our learning adventures with you! Rock on, fourth grade! 🎸✨

Volunteering
Educating youth takes a community effort, and because of that the Meade School Board is encouraging parents, guardians and other interested patrons to volunteer their time, knowledge and talents.
Members of the community bring new energies and resources into the schools and expand the walls of the classrooms. School volunteers enrich the educational program and strengthen the schools’ relationships with homes, businesses, public agencies and private institutions. All volunteers in the Meade School District do so without pay or employee benefits, except for workers’ compensation. For those interested in volunteering.
Mail to Meade School District, 1230 Douglas Street, Sturgis, S.D. 57785.
