The Raptor Report
September 2024 - "Rolling Hills Sticks Together"
From the Principal
Hello Rolling Hills’ Families,
Another exciting year is underway at Rolling Hills! We are happy to have our students returning to school, as well as welcome all the new students joining our Rolling Hills family! We would also like to extend a special welcome to new staff joining us this year. Please help us welcome Ms. Jasmyn Kosier, Orchestra, Mr. Reid Montanye, Band, Mrs. Crystal Mazur, Special Education Teacher, Mrs. Jes Langer, Counselor, Mrs. Lynda Piller, Recess Monitor, Mrs. Kristi Niegelson, Kitchen Lead, as well as Ms. Deszray Murphy and Ms. Alexis Deibert as Special Education Paraprofessionals. We are so excited to welcome all of you to our Rolling Hills family.
At Rolling Hills, we want our students to be happy, safe, and successful. We appreciate all the parents and staff that make Rolling Hills a very special place to learn, work and grow. Students that know their family is interested in and supports the school program will have fewer problems in school and enjoy greater academic success.
We believe in fair and consistent discipline that encourages students to be responsible for themselves. At school, we try to create a safe environment where courtesy and kindness prevail, and where there is respect for differences in other people, customs, and cultures. Please take time to discuss how we follow the Raptor Way with your son/daughter and review our guidelines for success:
At Rolling Hills, we love blue and live gold by being respectful, responsible, and safe!
We believe that communication among parents, students and teachers is critical in assuring student success. Our Mission at Rolling Hills is to “strengthen and support learning and growth for everyone through ongoing improvement.” Our Vision is to “achieve excellence in education, community, and personal development, paving the way for success in future opportunities.” Please share with our teachers any information regarding your child that will help us better serve your family. As we foster connections with students, parents and the community, an improved learning environment is created. I look forward to many wonderful years of working together!
GO RAPTORS!
Sincerely,
Dr. Ron Schlicht

Safety Drill Information for Parents and Students
The safety of our students and staff is the top priority of the Mukwonago Area School District. Each year, district schools practice the Standard Response Protocol which include hold, secure, shelter, lockdown, and evacuate.
In the past, many of these safety drills were announced in advance to students and staff. However, knowing that these drills are coming limits their effectiveness.
Starting this year, the Mukwonago Area School District will treat September as School Safety Month. During the month, schools will run an evacuation (fire) drill, a shelter (tornado) drill, a lockdown drill and a hold drill. We will provide information to teachers, students, and our families on the meaning of each drill and information following each drill to let you know that it has been conducted.
After September, in order to help everyone practice the Standard Response Protocol as effectively as possible, our safety drills – including holds and lockdowns – will not be announced in advance. However, you will always receive communication from your school after a safety drill – including a lockdown, hold, or secure – is held.
Please talk to your child about the importance of safety drills and being prepared for an emergency. The district is confident this will help our students and staff be as ready as possible for any situation that may occur.

School Safety Drills
Throughout the school year, we will be conducting safety drills to prepare students for various emergencies, including fire, tornado, bus evacuation, and lockdown situations. These drills aim to ensure that students feel secure and know how to respond effectively if an emergency occurs. The Town of Mukwonago Police, along with district staff and resource officers, will assist with these drills whenever possible. I’m sharing this information so you can discuss these drills with your children. Below is a brief overview of each drill:
Lockdown: This drill is used when there is a potential threat inside or outside the school. During a lockdown, students practice staying quiet and out of sight within their classrooms. No one is allowed to leave or enter the school until the lockdown is lifted. Before these drills, teachers will show students a slideshow to explain what they should do during a lockdown and in an emergency.
Evacuation: This drill involves students exiting the building quickly and calmly, usually in response to a fire alarm. Each class follows a specific exit route and gathers outside, where teachers account for all students. Fire drills occur once a month, and the building remains closed to anyone trying to enter during the drill.
Tornado Drill (Shelter): During a tornado drill, students move to designated safe areas within the school and practice the "duck and cover" position. This ensures they know where to go and what to do to stay safe in the event of a tornado.
Hold: In a hold situation, students are moved from the hallways into classrooms, where regular instruction continues. Holds are typically used for medical emergencies within the building.
Secure: During a secure situation, no one is allowed to enter the building, and students are moved indoors if they are outside. Instruction continues as usual.
Your children may have questions about why these drills are necessary. I encourage you to discuss these procedures with them to help alleviate any concerns and provide reassurance. Your support in explaining these drills in a sensitive manner will help reduce any anxiety they might feel.
If you have any questions about our district's safety procedures, please feel free to contact the office at (262)363-6318.

Student Technology Information
Due to unexpected technology issues related to Google Meet, the Grade 5-8 Take-Home Device parent presentation scheduled for Wednesday, August 14th at 7:00 pm was not available to families.
The virtual meeting was recorded separately and is now available for parents/guardians at this link. For your convenience, you can also find a copy of this presentation here. At this time, the meeting will not be rescheduled. Please feel free to email helpdesk@masd.k12.wi.us for any questions that may not have been answered during the recorded meeting or in the presentation. Thank you!
Did you Know?
You can check online to see which library books your student has checked out! Go to our school website, www.masd.k12.wi.us and if you scroll down there is a “Family & Student Login” button (yellow computer icon button). Use the “Destiny” icon for library software. Then choose your child’s home school and log in on the top right corner.
Your student should login with Google (their username is their network log in name, 4 letters of their last name and 4 of their first - ex: John Smith would be smitjohn@stu.masd.k12.wi.us) Students in Grades K-3 have their password set by their teacher and by students grades 4 and up set their own password. Your child is very versed on using this login information on websites on Chromebooks at school so you can ask them!
Once logged into Destiny, you can go to the tab on the top labeled “MY INFO” and it will show the items checked out, date, and due date. Please let your child’s LTS (Library Technology Specialist) know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Welcome Back Rolling Hills Families
The Rolling Hills PTO is so excited to get this school year started. We have spent the summer planning some amazing events. The board is bringing back some school favorites and planning some really cool new events. Below you will see our calendar of events. Please note that the dates or events may change, but we will make sure to keep everyone informed.
Another really cool new feature we have this year is our own personal website and app. This is going to be the hub of all things. This is optional, but please know this is the only place we will have the school directory this year. Another great feature is being able to list all of our event volunteer sign ups here. Please read the below flyer for more information and reach out to us with any questions.
On behalf of myself, Melissa Rankin, Jenna Wampole and Christy Jungbluth, we sincerely appreciate all the amazing support that you continue to give the PTO.
We are all very excited to make the 2024-2025 school year simply the best.
We hope to see you at a PTO meeting very soon.
The Raptor Way
Welcome back!! We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2024-2025 school year. During the first weeks back to school we will review The Raptor Way with all students. We strive to make sure we are all being SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL in their classrooms, throughout the school building, on the playground, and while riding the buses. The students following the Raptor Way are being rewarded with Raptor Roar Cards. They can use the cards as a form of money to purchase some very fun items at the Roar Store.
The Roar Store will open in October. We like to switch up some of the items monthly. There are many physical items the students can purchase, along with other special rewards like ‘Extra Time in the Library’, ‘Morning Announcer’, ‘After School Dismissal Announcer’, ‘Lunch with a Teacher’, and ‘Secret Agent’ where they get their own stack of ROAR cards to hand out to their peers. If you happen to have a donation of items you would like to give to our store, or would like to donate monetarily, please contact Ms. Napierala in 2nd grade. Please review the Matrix that you received at open house with your child. If you haven’t already, return it to your child’s teacher by September 10th. We are looking forward to a great school year!
Student Online Fees
The registration fee for the 2024-25 school year will remain at $61.00. Payments are due by parent conferences in October. This fee will be waived or reduced if you have been approved through the FREE & REDUCED Lunch Program.
Parents can pay student fees as well as add money to their child’s lunch account in their Infinite Campus Parent Portal. It only takes a few minutes to make an online payment using a VISA, MasterCard, or Discover Credit Card, a Debit Card, or via eCheck. (*A service fee is applied to your payment at checkout)
*MASD is suspending the service fee for online payments made through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal through September 30, 2024. The service fee suspension makes it a great time to pay your student fees and fines. Go to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to pay your student fees today!
Lunch Fees for 2023-24
Hot lunch (including milk) is available daily for $3.20. The cost of ala carte milk is $.50. Funds should be deposited to your child's Infinite Campus food service account. You may check the balance at any time by accessing the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. You will receive an automatic low balance or negative balance phone call when your child needs money added to his/her account.
Payments may be made online through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, or paid by check made out to MASD and sent to the school office. Our free/reduced-price lunch application is also available in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal for families wishing to apply for assistance.
Pick Up and Drop Off Information
With the start of school right around the corner, I want to reiterate our drop-off and pick-up procedures to help keep everyone safe. Below is an excerpt copied from our handbook. You can view the handbook in its entirety on our school website or by clicking here.
With approximately 450 students arriving at Rolling Hills each morning, safety is our top priority. Supervision by school staff is not provided prior to 8:20 a.m. No students are to arrive at Rolling Hills prior to 8:20 a.m. unless they are accompanied and supervised by a parent/guardian.
Drop Off
At 8:20 a.m. students will disembark from our buses. Students who are driven to school can enter the school one of two ways at this time - 1) parent escort students to Door #1,#2 or using Stop and Drop at Door #8
Students who walk to school will continue to enter the school at the North East door #8. For safety, students must use the crosswalk located at the north end of the playground.
Pick-up
Students walking home, getting picked up, or students attending after school care at Kids Connection will be dismissed at 3:33 p.m. Bus routes will be dismissed from the classrooms at 3:35 p.m. Parents who pick-up students prior to the end of the day must sign them out of the office. Students getting picked up after school must be escorted across the parking lot by a parent or guardian from door 1 or 2 only.
I wish everyone a safe and healthy start to the 24-25 school year.
Dr. Ron Schlicht
End of Day Transportation Change
If your child's plan for dismissal time is going to be different than his/her usual way of getting home, you MUST SEND A NOTE informing the teacher of your expectations for that day. If your plans change unexpectedly during the day, you may call the office prior to 2:30 p.m to give us this information. Please remember that changes are confusing for many children and disruptive to teachers at the last minute. If we do not have notification of a change from a parent, we will have to send your child home following the plan we were given at the beginning of the year.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Transportation Information
Bus Route Information
Your students' transportation information has been updated in Infinite Campus. You can login to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Once in the Portal, please click "More" on the left hand side, and then "Transportation".
Your students' transportation information includes their bus route number, time of pick up, and location of the bus stop. Drop off information is also included.
Concerns with Transportation
If you have a concern with your students' transportation, please go to our transportation website and follow the information under "Bus Transportation Concerns".
Apply for Transportation
If you are not currently receiving bus transportation but would like to, please go to our transportation website and follow the information under "Apply for Bus Transportation Service". Please note that seating will be limited based on availability for open enrolled students who reside in other school districts but would like to ride MASD routes.
Bus Routes and Supervision
Primary bus routes will be posted in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have a question on your child’s bus route, please contact Dousman Transportation at 262.363.7176 or 262.363.8188. It is recommended that your child be at the appropriate "pick-up" point about 5 minutes early and have someone wait with them for the bus to arrive. Buses, in many cases, will not be on time the first week. Please be patient with the bus company and the school.
All students are assumed to be picked up and dropped off at their home bus stop.
A “Special Bus Arrangement Request” form must be submitted for any situation different from this (i.e. child care, custody arrangements, etc.) These requests DO NOT carry over from year to year. Requests will go into effect five business days after we receive them.
Now is the time to take control of your bus stop. Each child is the responsibility of his/her parents until they get on the bus. Sending children to a bus stop unsupervised will lead to problems during the year. You and your neighbors can help by developing some type of rotation schedule for regular and consistent supervision. The bus driver and school personnel can not assume this parental responsibility.
Late Arrival and Absences
Students who arrive after the 8:30 a.m. start of school must report to the school office. Parents must call the school office at 262-363-6318 prior to 9:00 a.m. to report the absence or tardy. If the child will be late you must also request a hot lunch and indicate if your child would like choice one or choice two. Teachers send their classroom attendance/lunch count to the office shortly after the bell rings, and we need to make sure that if your child is not present, he/she is accounted for and a lunch is ordered if needed.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Per state law, an excused absence includes those due to illness, medical appointments and other exceptional circumstances like family emergencies and funerals. Unexcused absences are for reasons that are non-medical , non-emergency, contrary to the well-being of the student and are not communicated to the school by the parent/guardian.
Building Security - Arrival Reminders
We ask that you review these safety practices prior to the first day of school.
· When the 8:20 a.m. bell rings, a staff member will open the front vestibule doors (door #1) to allow students to head to their classrooms. Door #2 is for student access only.
· The North entrance of the building (Door #4) is to be used for Kids Connection drop-off and pick-up only.
· Families are reminded to utilize the morning “Stop and Drop” at door #8 around the back of the building and to not drop students off in the main parking lot without also walking them across to the main entrance. Please click here for map.
We want to continue to be a welcoming and safe place for families.
Please contact the office @262-363-6318 with any further questions.
We appreciate your help.
Raptor Visitor Management System
Rolling Hills Elementary uses the Raptor Visitor Management System in our school to strengthen our program of school safety for students and staff. Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system allows us to do that. This program will allow us to screen visitors and provides us with a safer environment.
Valid forms of ID or a state issued ID, Driver’s license, Military ID or passport. The Raptor system will check to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our school campuses without our knowledge. The Raptor system checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. The registered sex offender database is the only official database checked by the Raptor system. No other data from the ID is registered or recorded and the information is not shared with any outside agency. The Raptor system will also screen against custom alerts that the district/school configures, such as non-custodial parents/guardians, non-trespassing orders, etc.
Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or to pick up paperwork.
The office staff will be asking for identification from parents/grandparents who are picking up students during the school day. The safety of our students is our highest priority and the Raptor visitor management system allows us to quickly identify those that may present a danger to our students.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and your support in enhancing the school safety protocols in our district.
Volunteers
The Mukwonago Area School District understands that it takes students, staff, and the community to build better schools. One way the community can support our schools is through their time. We are grateful for the help of volunteers at each of our schools.
In order to provide for the safety and well-being of our students the Board of Education requires a background check for all volunteers. Background checks will be conducted prior to the individual’s first assignment in the District. Approval of volunteer applications are subject to District review.
If you are interested in volunteering, you will need to complete the online volunteer application no later than five school days prior to your first volunteer assignment in our schools. Your approved volunteer application will remain active for two years and is good for any school in the District.
Theme Days
Every Friday is a Rolling Hills Theme Day. Wear your Rolling Hills wear, Mukwonago wear or Blue and Gold!
