The Roadrunner Report
August 12th, 2024
PTSA, Choir, Student Council...and More!
Greetings Roadrunners,
As we close the chapter on the exhilarating journey of the 2024 Olympics, I’m reminded of the extraordinary dedication and effort that athletes from around the world pour into their craft. Every race run, every jump taken, and every goal scored was the culmination of years of hard work, persistence, and a belief that with determination, anything is possible.
In many ways, our students at Mirage Elementary School are much like these athletes. Just as Olympians train and hone their skills, our students are embarking on a new school year where they will strive for excellence in academics, behavior, and personal growth. The lessons from the Olympics are clear: success doesn’t come overnight. It’s built over time through practice, resilience, and the courage to push beyond limits.
This year, we’re asking our students to bring the spirit of the Olympics into the classroom. Whether mastering multiplication tables, exploring new scientific concepts, or learning to work together with classmates, the same qualities that make an Olympian—perseverance, teamwork, and a commitment to personal bests—will help our students achieve their goals.
But just as the Olympics celebrate a diversity of events and talents, we also offer a variety of extracurricular activities that allow our students to explore their passions and develop new skills. Our STEAM Club, for example, offers students the chance to engage in hands-on projects that blend creativity with critical thinking, much like an athlete combining strategy with physical ability. Our Community Education Department sanctioned Chess Club sharpens minds, encouraging students to think several steps ahead, much like a gymnast planning a perfect routine.
In the Band and Choir, students learn the harmony of working together toward a common goal, similar to a synchronized swimming team where every member’s contribution is vital to success. Side note and fun fact...I was a competitive synchronized swimmer when I was younger! The Student Council gives our young leaders a platform to voice their ideas and make a difference, much like athletes who inspire change on a global stage. And in our new and developing Drums ensemble, students find rhythm and discipline, echoing the precision and focus required in every Olympic sport.
We encourage every student to participate in these opportunities, not just as a way to have fun and meet new friends, but as a way to develop the skills and mindset that will serve them well in all areas of life. Just as Olympians are well-rounded individuals who excel in their sport and beyond, we want our students to be well-rounded, excelling academically and socially.
As we begin this new school year, I invite you to support your child in finding their passion, whether it’s in the classroom or on the chessboard, in the band room, or leading a team. Together, let’s inspire our students to reach for their personal best, knowing that, like the Olympians they admire, they have the potential to achieve greatness.
Thank you for being a part of our Mirage Elementary School community. Here’s to a year of growth, discovery, and excellence!
Warm regards,
Bobbi Cerro
