Please also note a change to Roosevelt's OSAS state testing schedule. Students at Roosevelt will now test on M 5/12, T 5/13, Th 5/15, and M 5/19. W 5/14 and F 5/16 are regular school days. We're running a special schedule those days with testing happening in the morning from 9:00 - 10:45 and first period starting at 11. See below for more info on state testing and the bell schedule.

Upcoming Events for Current 8 Graders
May 20: RMS 8th graders will participate in a walking field trip to South Eugene High School for a tour. Students will be divided in two groups, a morning group and an afternoon group. We're looking for parent volunteers to accompany students to SEHS. You can sign up HERE.
June 6: 8th Grade Dance... this is a special dance/Activity Night just for 8th graders. Please note, this year it's happening the Friday before promotion from 6:30 - 8:00. This is a change from past years when the dance followed promotion.
June 12: Promotion... 6:00 - 7:30. We'll host a promotion ceremony to honor and celebrate our 8th graders as they make this important transition to high schoolers.
June 13: 8th Grade End of Year Celebration at the YMCA... we're super excited the YMCA has opened up their facility to our 8th graders for an end of year celebration on the last day of school. The YMCA has opened the pool, gym, and computer/teen spaces for a private event for Roosevelt students from 10:00 - 12:00 on the last day of school. Should be a lot of fun for our 8th graders!
State Testing at RMS, May 12-19
Each Spring, all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders participate in the Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) testing. These tests help guide systems-level decisions and comparisons about instructional efficacy. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders take ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics tests. 8th graders also take the Science test.
Students at Roosevelt will test on M 5/12, T 5/13, Th 5/15, and M 5/19. This is a change to what we previously announced. As we have the last few years, we’ll run a special testing schedule on those days with testing happening in the morning from 9:00 - 10:45 and first period starting at 11.
Please prepare for shortened instructional days– testing in the morning and classes in the afternoon– on testing days. Wednesday 5/14 and Friday 5/16 will be a regular school days.
Please see the schedule below. Plan on sending your student on time for testing to House or to the Dining Hall for unstructured study time. Your student is also welcome to arrive by 11:00 Monday 5/12, Tuesday 5/13, Thursday 5/15 , and Monday 5/19. Again, Wednesday 5/14 and Friday 5/16 are regular school days. We are not testing on Friday 5/16 because of a field trip our Track & Field team is taking, which will result in 160+ students out of the building.
Roosevelt uses OSAS test results to help us consider interventions and directions with our curriculum. While OSAS is not the only way in which we measure student growth and classroom assessments remain the most effective way to consider student progress, it is data we consider when writing school-wide goals and plan for improvements. We respect parents’ decision to opt students out and wanted to also share with you when and how we use the data. Thanks for considering this perspective!
Additionally, all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are provided an opportunity to complete the Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey, which asks about access to resources, school connections, and academic opportunities. Click here for more information about OSAS tests, and click here for more details about the SEED survey. RMS students will take the SEED Survey on May 30 during House. SEED Survey Annual Notice & Opt Out Form
You may opt out your child from testing at any time for selected tests and/or the survey. More information on opting out can be found at this link. We also have forms in the front office.

PAR Message
Showcase 2025 was a great success and could not have happened without your involvement.
Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make it happen by obtaining donations for the silent auction, coordinating with the food trucks, donating items, and helping with setup and clean up. Thank you also to the staff who provided staffle raffle items which were a big hit. Thanks also go to the core leaders who helped run the booths, our custodian for helping set up many a table, and for the community for coming out and supporting RMS by purchasing auction items or tickets and buying food from the vendors.
It was great to see the community come out, have fun, and enjoy being together. The funds raised will allow us to keep supporting staff grants and staff appreciation events.
THANK YOU!

Eugene Youth Advisory Council Seeking Applicants
The City of Eugene is currently seeking applicants for the Eugene Youth Advisory Council. This is a fantastic leadership opportunity for youth who will be attending high school (or equivalent), as of Fall 2025) to impact our community and work alongside Eugene’s Mayor. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, May 27.
Initiated by former Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis and enthusiastically supported by Mayor Kaarin Knudson, the Eugene Youth Advisory Council is in its fifth year. The Youth Advisory Council has regularly sustained a group of 20-25 students representing many schools in Eugene (and homeschool/online students) that features significant diversity across race, ethnicity, gender, age and life experience. With this year's seniors preparing to leave the group, the Youth Advisory Council is currently seeking applicants who will be attending high school next year to fill these vacancies.
The mission of the Eugene Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is to narrow the divide between our youth and local government while providing a voice for youth. The core work of the group includes:
- Educating the general public about issues that concern Eugene’s youth
- Participating in decisions regarding public issues, projects, and proposals that have an impact on youth
- Working with local government officials and community organizations to create civic engagement and service opportunities for local youth
- Creating connections among the youth of Eugene.
The group currently meets once a month to discuss important issues and perform council business.
More information about the Eugene Youth Advisory Council can be found at this link.
