Headteacher's Bulletin
21/06/24 - Edition 31
Highlights of the week
I hope this bulletin finds you well and enjoying the beautiful warm weather we are experiencing. As we adjust to the higher temperatures, I wanted to remind parents of the summer change to our uniform policy. Students are now permitted to wear shirt sleeves and ties only, with no requirement for jumpers or blazers around the school. However, shirts must be tucked in, and blazers should be kept in lockers as they must be worn during morning assemblies. I can confirm that our auditorium remains cool and comfortable for morning assemblies.
This week, our brand-new choir has been active within the local community again, performing during St Edmund's Primary School music assemblies. Congratulations to them for their wonderful ambassadorship. Additionally, we were honoured to be invited to Nelson Primary School this morning to contribute to the community effort in building a new Nelson Primary Mosaic. It was a significant event, and we are proud to have been a part of it.
A huge thank you goes to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) (Friends of Twickenham School, FoTS), who have generously contributed £1,500 to subsidise a Year 9 Rewards trip. This was made possible due to the excellent lobbying efforts led by Jayce Arnold, who wrote an incredible and powerfully persuasive letter. Additionally, a group of Year 9 students organised a petition explaining why the top-performing students deserved this trip. Plans are afoot for next year as we prepare for a Rewards Trip Week for the entire school.
We also want to thank the PTA (FoTS) for providing all our Year 11 students with wonderful gift vouchers, which will be presented to them at tonight’s Prom (anyone not at prom will receive theirs in the post). The evening promises to be an epic celebration.
Please do consider joining the PTA and signing up for rugby parking events, which raise all the money throughout the year. The proceeds provide these additional opportunities and equipment for our students. Thank you to Justine and Miranda, who are the driving force behind these fundraising events. Please contact twickenhamschoolpta@gmail.com if you wish to be more involved.
Have a wonderful week.
HPV catch up
Students who missed their HPV Vaccine are being offered it again at school on Friday 28 June. You will have received notifications about this from the NHS Immunisation team.
This week in PE
It has been another busy week for the Physical Education department. The U13 Girls Cricket team concluded their season on a high note, with victory. Well done to Lily Mitchell for scoring an unbeaten 23 runs.
Additionally, it has been encouraging to witness the enthusiastic participation of our students in National School Sports Week. Many have taken advantage of break and lunch times to engage in various activities, including foot tennis, kippy up challenges, spikeball, badminton, and football. These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to promoting at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
103 students took part in our football keep up challenge. Special shout out to Joichiro who got 561 without dropping the ball!
