Can you believe we are almost wrapping up the third week of school? We have had a wonderful first three weeks and I am excited that not only our returning Texans are falling back into the groove of school life, but also our new to Old Town Texans!

This Wednesday also marks our first Popcorn Day at Old Town!- Be sure to get your bag!

The Technology Department will be selling popcorn two times a month (most months) on Wednesdays or Thursdays as their annual fundraiser.

Popcorn will be $1.50 each day it is sold or you can purchase a Popcorn Pass for the 2024-2025 school year. It’s a perfect way to end the day!

Please see this flyer for additional information. We are also seeking volunteers to support this! If you would like to learn more about how you can help with Popcorn Days, please fill out this form! We greatly appreciate all the support and help for the Technology Department at OTE.

APEX is coming to Old Town!

We are excited to welcome APEX back to Old Town. This fundraiser helps Old Town raise money for field trips and enrichment opportunities for every grade. More information

Birthday Treats

We love birthdays! I would like to share with you that if you would like to bring treats for your child’s birthday, we are happy to help make their special day even more special.

Please be mindful of the following:

• Treats should be dropped off in the front office and will be delivered to the classroom at 2:30pm

• To protect instructional time, the class will have a small celebration at the end of the day prior to dismissal when treats are dropped off. We kindly ask that guardians allow this to be a celebration with the class only.

• Treats should be individually wrapped and packaged or in a grab and go bag. Teachers will not be able to cut treats. In addition, we have several dietary restrictions on campus that require close inspection of the nutrition label.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and are excited to support you in making any Old Town Texan’s day a little more special on their big day!

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

On Time and Ready to Learn

Instruction begins for our campus at 7:35 am.

Having each student arrive on time and ready to learn is critical.

Should you arrive with your child after 7:40 am please park and sign your child in at the front office. To keep students safe, we do not leave any door propped open unsupervised without a staff member past 7:40am.

PTA

This is the last week to order your Old Town Elementary t-shirts and sweatshirts! They will be delivered to your student's classroom a few weeks after the store closes. I am not sure when the Texas weather will turn to sweatshirt weather, but I am so excited for my Old Town Sweatshirt!

I want to remind you that joining PTA does not commit you to anything! You can visit their website to learn about all the opportunities they have available for you to get involved.

Dismissal Number System for Car Rider

We are starting with numbers!

There is one way that you can support your student at dismissal. Please remind your child of their number each morning. It is a super simple way to help support and echo our efforts to help our students learn their dismissal number. Pretty soon it will be second nature!

InfoSnap
Please be sure to fill out the InfoSnap enrollment information that is emailed to you from the district. This contains not only registration information, but permission for yearbook pictures, Google Suite, directory release, district release and information regarding the Chromebook 1:1 expectations/charges for lost/damaged devices.

Chromebook/iPad Apps

Throughout the year, we utilize online applications that will enhance the learning of your child and support and reinforce the concepts we are teaching in class. Before using these applications, we want to make you aware of federal laws and regulations that apply to the use of technology to support classrooms and require parental consent in order to be most effective. In order for teachers to use this online tool with student records or other information that could be personally identifiable, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires that your consent be given due to the possible exposure of your student’s information to the website’s operator or to other participants. In order for students to use these programs/services, certain personal information must be provided to the website operator. Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these websites must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13.

Please fill out the form for app approval (available at this link or on the campus website) for each child that attends Old Town. If this form is not filled out by the end of September 2024, it is assumed that permission is given.

YMCA After School Enrichment
eSports is offered at our campus after school on Tuesday & Thursday for students in grades 2-5. The first session starts September 10.

Effective August 2024 - State mandated change regarding Over-The-Counter medications during the school day. Administration of OVER-THE-COUNTER medication during the school day needs a physician's signature AND a parent/guardian's signature to be administered by a nurse.*

Happy Birthday Book Club opportunity! Would you like to honor your child on his/her birthday and help the library program as well? You may dedicate a book to the library in your child’s name. The cost is $20.00. Please make your checks payable to Old Town Elementary or click HERE to pay online with a credit/debit card. Please complete the following form and return it to the library no matter the payment method

As you were reading this summer I hope you were able to finish your summer reading log. Please be sure those are turned in to the library. Prizes will be awarded by the second week of September. There are some great titles in our little free library outside of the school if you have a few more spaces to fill out.

If you found any lost books over the summer please send those in during the first week of school.
