Halloween at Woods Creek
We will be hosting a Halloween parade and classroom parties on October 31 during the school day. Students may bring Halloween costumes to school but should not wear them to school. They will have a few minutes later in the day to put their costume on over their clothing.
Please DO NOT send your child to school with a blow up costume or a costume that includes blood, gore anything too scary. Costume accessories, especially weapons, are best left at home and used later during trick-or-treating. Masks may be worn during the parade if they are not too scary and students can see well enough to walk with them on. We request that students refrain from wearing face paint.
The Halloween parade will begin at approximately 1:50 p.m. Parents/families are welcome to watch the parade from outside the school building. They may stand along the front sidewalk to watch. Students will briefly parade outside in their costumes. View the outdoor parade route. The school parade is a “good weather” event. Therefore, if it rains, the parade will be canceled. Cars may enter the lot to park prior to 1:45 p.m. After 1:45 p.m., cones will be out blocking the entrance, please park on a neighborhood side street. Please do not block cars in parking spots in our parking lot.
Students will go to their classroom parties after the parade. Classroom parties will be held from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Parents who have pre-arranged to attend are welcome. Halloween party volunteers may check in at the office at 2:15 p.m. to set up for classroom parties.

Food Drive
District 47 and Woods Creek School are proud to support the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and look forward to participating in the annual Community Harvest Food Drive. Woods Creek will be collecting items this year for the Food Drive November 11-November 26. Monetary donations are also appreciated; checks can be made payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. We are excited to be involved in this annual tradition and important community event!
One School, One Book
Woods Creek will be participating in the One School One Book program again this year during the months of January and February. One School, One Book is a program in which all families receive a copy of the same book (provided by our PTO) and they are encouraged to read together at home as a family. At school, we support the reading by completing crafts, playing fun games, answering trivia questions, participating in scavenger hunts, and more. We wrap up the program with a Family Reading Night event.
This year we would like to capitalize on the excitement from The Wild Robot movie and use the book, The Wild Robot Escapes (the sequel) as our book! We will be announcing this to students this week during library time, so we are encouraging students to hold off on reading The Wild Robot Escapes on their own at this time. We will be reading it together as a school community this winter!
School Musical - Dot and the Kangaroo, JR.
The cast and choir of Dot and the Kangaroo, JR. are preparing for their performances in November. All Woods Creek students will get the opportunity to attend the musical during the school day on Thursday, November 14. This will be a morning field trip for students. Also, there will be ticketed performances on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16. Tickets for these shows will go on sale at wcmusical.ludus.com starting at 9:00 a.m. on October 28. The online ticket sales will be open through November 14. Mark your calendar for the show if you plan to attend a weekend performance.
