A Note From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
You may have heard that Chardon Local Schools received a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on its 2023-24 school report card through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This means the district "exceeds state standards" overall. We are proud to share that Munson Elementary School received a 5 star rating! These scores are based on five rated components: achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation, and early literacy. I am SO proud of our teachers and staff for their continuous hard work and dedication to the education of our students. For more information, please visit the Department of Education & Workforce's website by clicking HERE. Thank you for all you do to support us here at Munson!
Sincerely,
Mathew Prezioso
Principal, Munson Elementary
Mr. Prez's Pic of the Week
We had Backtrack Vocals, an amazing professional a cappella singing group from Brooklyn, perform for us this week! They taught us how to beatbox and harmonize, and we got to sing along to some great songs! Check out their website and their YouTube Channel to see some of their performances. Thank you to Mrs. Puterbaugh and the Chardon Crescendo Club for arranging this super special assembly!

It's SOCK-tober!
As you may remember, we have been focusing on promoting KINDNESS at Munson this year, because offering kindness is something that EVERYONE can do! Our school counselor, Mrs. Barnett, has given us a very exciting Kindness Challenge for October - SOCK-TOBER! All month long, Munson will be collecting new pairs of kids socks to donate to Geauga County Job & Family Services.
Our schoolwide goal is to collect 300 pairs of new socks! There will be collection boxes here at school, and the grade level that donates the most pairs of socks will win a popcorn party! Let's show just how KIND Munson can be by meeting the SOCK-TOBER DONATION CHALLENGE!
Help Munson Honor and Thank Our Veterans!
Munson takes immense pride in honoring our nation's veterans every year, and our Veterans day committee is already hard at work planning this year's activities. See below for just one way you and your family can participate! MANY more activities and events are planned to honor Veterans Day at Munson, so stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
Field of Flags/DAV Donations
We would like to thank the Munson Elementary families and friends who have generously donated to our 2024 Field of Flags. We have almost reached our goal, but it would be AWESOME to surpass it!
Please make a special donation today to add a flag to the field. Whether it's for a veteran in your life or in honor of all our nation's veterans, your special gift will help provide life-changing assistance for veterans in need. Feel free to share our link with family and friends who may be willing to support us in reaching our goal.
Thank you for supporting Munson Elementary and the DAV in honoring our nation's veterans by providing them with services they need and deserve. Click HERE to visit Munson Elementary's DAV Donation Page!

- Online shopping is also available now through October 25! Click HERE and search for Munson Elementary to browse the catalog and make online purchases.
How do we pay?: You can send cash to school with your child (please put in a sealed, labeled bag or envelope), or gift cards are available for purchase on our book fair website linked above. Literati gift cards do not expire, and can be used online year-round or roll over to be used at future book fairs!
How can I help?: We need volunteers to help set up and tear down, and people to help students shop. If you're interested in volunteering to help at the Book Fair, please click HERE to sign up!
Fall Parties and Parade!
We will have class Fall Parties along with our annual costume parade on Thursday, October 31! (Alternative activities will be provided for any student that can not participate.)
PARADE INFO
ONLY PTO-assigned volunteers will be permitted in classrooms for the parties, but ALL parents are welcome to watch the costume parade. The parade will begin at 2:30pm; if weather permits, we will be outside and parade in front of the school. If the weather does NOT cooperate, parents may sit in the bleachers in the gym and students will parade there. Anyone watching the parade should park across the street at the church.
COSTUMES & PARTY INFO
Students should not wear their costumes to school in the morning, but bring them in a bag. Please make sure your child can put their costume on and take it off independently. There will not be time to apply any costume makeup. No full face masks or weapons are permitted. As previously mentioned, ONLY PTO-assigned volunteers will be permitted in classrooms for the parties. If you were selected to be a party volunteer in your child's classroom, the PTO will be in touch with you by next Tuesday, October 8.
Please contact the Munson PTO at munsonelementarypto@gmail.com with any questions about the Fall Parties!
