Ms. Beth Barnott will retire effective January 1st, 2025! Thank you for your service to the students and families of LTAC! Congratulations, Ms. Barnott! Mrs. Patty Caswell will serve as our long-term substitute teacher for second semester, supporting students just as Ms. Barnott did.
From the Counselor . . .
Counselor Ms. Jenni Berk continues to meet with students to support them if having socio-emotional, attendance, and/or academic concerns. When we return to school after winter break, Ms. Berk will begin the 25-26 school year course request and scheduling process with students, starting with rising seniors.

Library Media Specialist Mrs. Meredith Reed welcomed students to the November Book Club and has issued a challenge to all students, faculty, and staff to read at least 25 books this school year! Each week we select a student participating in the reading challenge to win a free item from the Snack Shack and Starbooks in the Library Media Center. Check out the dashboard to see our statistics! For December, students participating in Book Club will read Steve Sheinkin's Impossible Escape and Court Stevens' Last Girl Breathing. Remember: we provide books to students, and the meetings occur during the school day, so everyone has access!

Students in the Agricultural Engineering Institute have finished learning about engine components and systems, wood construction by building a truss for a small backyard shed, and concrete and electricity.
Agribusiness - Equine Studies Program
Students in Equine Science (Level 1) explored six options for bedding stalls and continue to practice cleaning straw and shavings stalls and picking hooves. Next, students will learn advanced grooming skills, like evening out and shortening manes and caring for tails.
Students in Agribusiness and Farm Management (Level 2) finished their study of equine health. Next, they will learn about their personality types and how to manage a barn and employees.
Students in Agricultural Sales and Marketing (Level 3) have completed a sales pitch and learned about equine lameness, including hoof packs. A massage therapist who teaches at Midway University also provided a demonstration to students.
Congratulations to Sydney Dryden, Kenley Foster, Addison Gayne, and Riley Hutchison for earning fourth place in the FFA Kentucky Career Development Event Horse Judging!

Food Science and Processing Program
Feeder pigs have arrived on campus! Students will learn about pig management and the development of pork products. Students also will continue to learn about other livestock species prior to parturition.
Pre-Veterinary Studies Program
Students in Animal Technology (Level 3) learned about the digestive and nervous systems and now learn about the respiratory and circulatory systems. Students will finish the semester learning about the renal and reproductive systems.
Students in Environmental Science and Technology completed terrestrial biome models and submitted entries to the Jim Claypool Art and Science Essay Contest. Next, students will study water quality, even testing local water sources and learning about water conservation.
Students in Forestry learned to operate chainsaws, prioritizing safety measures and teaming up with the students in the Plant Science Institute, led by Agriculture Instructor Mr. Daniel Bustle. Next, they will learn about tree diseases and pests and their impact and common tools in the industry.
Thanks to a suggestion from student Beyonce Fraga, students in Aquaculture prepared meals from around the globe in honor of American Thanksgiving, teaming up with the students in the Food Science and Processing Program, led by Agriculture Instructor Mr. Doug Ashcraft. Next, they will study water quality in relationship to fish health.

Students in this Institute have designed products to sell at the upcoming Holiday Extravaganza (See the above flyer.); learned to calculate fertilizer rates and diagnose nutrient deficiencies, building foundational skills in plant health management; and curated a list of plants for the Spring sale, applying their knowledge of plant production to prepare for a successful growing season.

Foundational Courses
In Agriculture Employability Skills, students attended the Ag is for All Conference at the University of Kentucky and worked on resumes, cover letters, and job interviewing skills.
In Principles of Agricultural Science and Technology, students have finished a unit on food science and processing, including reading and understanding food labels and food safety. Next, students will design a new food product.

Congratulations to Skyler Farmer who won a Supervised Agricultural Experience grant from the Kentucky FFA Foundation! Skyler will use this money to restore her chicken coop and purchase feed. Way to go, Skyler!
Congratulations to Haylee Tucker who also won a Supervised Agricultural Experience grant from the Kentucky FFA Foundation! Haylee will use this money to show and care for dairy cows. Way to go, Haylee!

Work-Based Learning
Students will create posters about their Work-Based Learning experiences to display throughout the main campus building. Please direct any questions to Work-Based Learning Coordinator Mrs. Nicki Jones.
Interns at The Kentucky Castle have tested soils and adjusted plots accordingly, especially for blueberries. Students also have winterized paddocks and waterers, secured the high tunnel, started hydroponic lettuce in the greenhouse, and canned applesauce. See the below photos. Students will begin their improvement projects soon!
