We need your help to discuss bullying at home too!
To help students achieve their best and make schools safe and welcoming, we need more than just anti-bullying policies. Character Strong uses strategies that are proven to work and focus on key social and emotional skills. In the curriculum, students will experience a blend of anti-bullying methods with other important skills like empathy, communication, and resilience. This helps schools deal with bullying better while also teaching students to understand and care for each other. This approach makes it easier for schools to embrace bullying prevention strategies and build an environment of kindness and respect.
Bullying is hurtful and repeated, but it also…
● Is unwanted physical or emotional pain
● Involves an imbalance of power
● Can happen online (cyberbullying)
Questions to ask your children:
● What are some ways you can include others and make sure everyone feels welcome?
● How can you can report bullying?

Ana-Lisa
Attendance Tech/Registrar, My name is Ana-Lisa and I’ve been working in a school office for 10 years. I worked 6 years in San Antonio, Texas, at Southside ISD, where I started off as a receptionist, then worked up to receptionist/attendance clerk, then I was an attendance clerk and vice principal secretary for three grade levels. I moved to Arizona in 2021 after my daughter Stevie graduated high school where I worked at Homer Davis (Flowing Wells USD)for 2 years and I’m currently on my second year here at Booth-Fickett., My favorite food is a good seafood crab boil bag, but I do love my Tex-Mex food. I have three favorite colors that are any shade of purple, blue, and green. Besides Arizona, I do love to go back to San Antonio to visit my mom and my daughter. I love to hike Mount Lemmon with my dogs Falkor and Zecora, fish, golf, and watch my favorite teams Arizona Wildcats, Cardinals and Diamondbacks….oh I’m also a BIG fan of Baby Yoda 😊, This is my 2nd year at Booth-Fickett. I am happy working here because I feel at home and know that I have wonderful coworkers that have my back when it comes to work or personal related situations.
Xavier O Mack, I go by “Xavi”, and I’m a site custodian., I’ve lived in Tucson since I was 19 months old, and I moved to the district to better serve the community after working maintenance at the Walmart at Gateway Center., Favorite Food: KFC;
Favorite Movies: Pixar and Ghibli ones;
Favorite Candy: Whoppers;
Favorite Place: Tucson Mall before its early 2000s renovation, It’s the 2024-2025 school year, and I love the community-oriented vibe here!
Jules Hehn or Ms. Hehn, I relocated to Tucson in 2021 from Washington state to be in the sunshine! I have an M.A. Degree in Education/Special Education and School Counseling. I have been a general education teacher (K-8th) as well as a special education teacher for severe behavioral student (K-8th). I have been a school counselor my last few years in education., I love to socialize and work with children. My favorite foods are Filipino, Thai, Indian and Mexican. I love to travel. My favorite color is red. I enjoy being outside gardening, BBQing, bicycling or swimming., This is my second year working as a school counselor at Booth-Fickett. I love being able to support the students and families at our diverse school as well as working towards the goal of making this an "A" school.
Ryan Hellmann, Ryan Hellmann, ELD , I've been working with kids in some aspect or another since I was 16. I've moved around a bit since then but was drawn here because I grew up on the east side and used to work at OTT YMCA, so this area of town feels like home. I sometimes wonder if the kids I used to work with now have kids of their own that attend this school, but that makes me feel kind of old so I don't think about it too much., I enjoy all cultural foods, will try anything once. I'm also a big fan of Tucson just cause of the people here. My wife and I have four dogs, and we love taking them up to Mt. Lemmon., It's my first year and I'm happy to be here because I really like this subject since I get to meet kids from all different types of cultures and help them along in their language learning journey.
Sergio Ortiz, My name is Sergio Ortiz and I am the MTSS Facilitator here at Booth-Fickett. , This is my tenth year in education, but my journey with at-risk youth began when I was 18, working in the non-profit sector for over a decade. During my time in intervention services, I observed that a common factor among many of the youth I encountered was a significant lack of educational opportunities. This realization inspired me to pursue a career in education. Originally from Texas, where I spent nine years teaching, I relocated to Tucson, Arizona, in the summer of 2023. I joined Booth-Fickett as a 7th-grade Science teacher and later transitioned to my current role as the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) facilitator. Now in my second year at Booth-Fickett, I am excited about the opportunities and challenges the new school year will bring., Deciding on a favorite food is challenging for me, as I truly enjoy a wide variety of foods from different parts of the world. However, if I had to choose, Mexican food would be at the top of the list. When it comes to color, it's also tough to pick just one, given the incredible array of colors out there. Recently, I’ve developed a fondness for yellow, likely because it reminds me of the sunshine, I love which is one of the reasons I came to Arizona. As for my favorite place, it tends to shift depending on where I am with the people I cherish the most., This is my second year here at Booth-Fickett and I am happy to be at a school that is up and coming and dedicated to educating all students, and creating a environment that is safe and welcoming.
Courtney Owens. My name is Courtney Owens and I teach P.E. at Booth-Fickett., I am from Manitoba, Canada. I got a scholarship to play softball at Missouri State University. After I graduated, I moved to Tucson and have been teaching P.E. for TUSD for 11 years. , My favorite food is vegan pizza, my favorite color is blue and my favorite place is The Gentle Barn (animal sanctuary) in California. , This is my second year at Booth-Fickett. I’m happy to be here to help be a positive influence on my students’ physical AND mental health!
Watch for more in October......
