Monday June 5th
It's the final countdown! We are so excited to be closing out of a great school year and our students are very excited for their summer vacation! I'd like to take this time to also thank our larger community for the warm welcome and wonderful support you have given both me and our school this year. As I finish my first school year at MSMS, I am extremely grateful to be a part of this community and to have the opportunity to serve our students and community all together. I look forward to our future and enjoy each moment of the present. Thanks again to you all.
Chaperones Needed!!
We need your help...our dance organizers are looking for THREE more chaperones for Wednesday's Black Light Dance to celebrate our 8th graders. Please reach out to Kelly Poor if you are able to help. (kstoddardpoor@aarp.org) or text 802-393-9187
MSMS Summer Reading Club with Julie!
This summer, Julie will be hosting a book discussion for MSMS students. Students in current grades 4 -7 are welcome to join. Each student is welcome to sign up HERE! Students will get a copy of the book to read and keep (or pass on!) and refreshments on our discussion days!
Spring MSMS School Survey! We are always looking for ways to improve our work at MSMS. I would appreciate it if you took a few moments to complete our Spring Caregiver Survey. It should take no more than 5 minutes to complete
Consider Becoming a Substitute! As we close out this year, I'd love to encourage those who may be able to consider becoming a substitute teacher. Our schools are always in need of a substitute for our school staff. We love our substitutes and would love for you to consider helping our school community in this way!
#GATORNATION CELEBRATIONS!

Congrats to 7/8 Science Teacher, Kim Kendall! She was chosen by our 8th grade students to have the yearbook dedicated to her. Students all gushed about how kind and caring, Ms Kendall is and how she is patient ans supportive of all students! Well deserved kudos!
We currently have 13 students in Maryland competing in the NATIONAL History Day Competition after winning in Vermont. Teacher Dan Maguire is also representing MSMS at this event as he was named the Vermont History Day Middle School Teacher of the Year. Go Gators!
Last week, we had two sixth grade students organize and run a bake sale to raise money for the Sandy Hook Foundation and raised $206.80. Well done to Solomon Howie and Micah Jacobson for spearheading this effort and the other students who also contributed in big ways! You're activism and initiative is inspiring!
Two weeks ago, in conjunction with MRPS-PIE and local social workers, we had seven 6th graders join some MHS students to become Bystander Leaders in developing trainings for our district for next year to help improve school culture and stop bullying. These students stayed and worked together for a full day despite it being an early release day. We're excited to see their hard work grow next year in helping our school climate continue to improve. These leaders are: Alison Donlan-Kite, Jamis Evans, Hayden Luman, Alex Mallory, Natalie Raspe, Noah Sincyr, and Derek Wright.

Step Up Day and Transitions for Students Grades 4-7
Thursday, June 15th we will end our school year with a "Step Up Day." This is a time we welcome our incoming 5th graders and for all our students to spend some time with their new TA teachers and meet some of the classmates they will be learning with come this fall. Students will get a bagged lunch to share with their TA during this time, have some team time, and will be dismissed at noon.
8th Grade Celebration Party - June 14th!
When: Wednesday, June 14, from 7:30 - 9:30 pm (directly following the 8th-grade promotion ceremony at the high school)
Where: Cafeteria at Montpelier High School
Why: To celebrate our 8th graders moving on to Montpelier High School in the fall, the Community Alliance Group is hosting a Black Light Celebration Party in the Montpelier High School cafeteria following the Promotion Ceremony on June 14. All MSMS 8th graders are invited to come to celebrate with their classmates!
The Black Light Celebration party will have refreshments, glow sticks, and music and games hosted by Top Hat Entertainment. Helpful tips: If your student wants to "glow" at the celebration, any clothing or materials that are white, fluorescent, or neon will glow in the black light. "Glow in the dark" items will shine brightly under blacklight. If you don't want to glow, choose black or darker colors for most of your outfit.
Historically, it’s been the 7th-grade caregivers that help on the day of this event so the 8th-grade parents can be fully present for the day’s activities and ceremony. We thank you in advance for helping make this event happen!
Volunteers & Donations Needed for 8th Grade Celebration Party
There are 86 8th-graders, and we’re looking for snacks, drinks, baked goods, and pizza donations to help feed them. If you’d rather donate funds to help purchase these items, you can Venmo Stephanie @Stephani-Kononan
You can arrange a drop-off time before the event for nonperishable donations by emailing Kelly Poor (kstoddardpoor@aarp.org) or text 802-393-9187
For perishable items, please plan to drop your items off at MHS’s cafeteria between 6:00 pm and 6:45 pm. If you need an earlier drop-time because you’re an 8th-grade caregiver, let us know, and we can make arrangements.
