St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 4 I 1 November 2024
Good afternoon, everyone!
I hope you are all making the most of this terrific weather and have enjoyed a really good week.
Kindy Parent Information Session
Thank you to all those parents who attended our Kindy 2025 Info session on Monday. We are very much looking forward to getting to know your little people. Between now and the start of next year, you are asked to simply enjoy your soon-to-be Kindy kids and reinforce those simple social skills that will set them up for success at school – e.g taking turns, sharing, saying please and thank you and having a great attitude! Just a reminder to current families with new Kindy students, if you want to discuss anything with myself or Caitlin prior to the start of 2025, please make a time to pop in for a chat.
Interschool Spelling Bee
Well done to our super speller team/s who represented us at interschool recently yesterday. This is the first time we have hosted the competition here at Bernie’s and thanks to Mr Murtagh and Mrs Cosgrove for organising it so well! Very proud to say that we won Gold in Year 6 with Amelie and Silver in Year 4 with Taj. Amazing effort guys!
Wellness Week
Week 5 is Wellness Week with a special focus on family, staff and student wellbeing.
This is a no extra meetings week, a no homework week and a time to recharge the battery ready for the busy weeks ahead.
Maintaining good mental well-being, is closely linked to good physical health. Mums and dads are encouraged to continue ensuring children are getting adequate sleep, regular exercise and nutritious foods every day.
School lunches don’t need to be fancy, but they do need to be consistently healthy if our kids are going to receive the energy they need to last a busy school day.
So, you may have noticed that our bell has now been repaired and our microphone system works again. We have some extra capability with the new system, and we are also getting some new speakers to boost the sound out the back and on the oval. Unfortunately, I have broken a mirror or something because on Tuesday the bore broke and will need to be replaced. Many of you will know how hard we have worked to get this lawn beautiful for our students, so this has been a hard pill to swallow. Just an FYI, that we are onto it, and hope to get it sorted asap. We will be attempting to save it using sprinklers, so please be careful if they are on!
Finally, just a quick administrative consideration for parents. If we could all try to limit the number of calls about pick-ups in the last few minutes of the school day it would be great. We often have calls right before the end of the day, and are unable to get the message through to students in time. This puts pressure on our staff to find students and slows down the drive-through etc. Particularly for older students, please discuss a Plan B with your child so they know where you will be or alternatively, ring earlier in the day. We appreciate the support!
Wishing you all a great weekend.
Regards,
Geordie
All Saints and All Souls Day
All Saints' Day is celebrated on November 1st to remember all those saints and martyrs during Christian history. It is followed by All Souls' Day on November 2nd to commemorate all those who have passed away in faith.
The prayer opposite is a comforting read as we remember those special loved ones who are no longer with us.
This Thursday we hosted the Interschool Spelling Competition. We competed against Star of the Sea, Mater Christi and Mother Teresa. It was a great morning of competition but a bit nerve wracking at times! A big massive shout out to all those who competed and represented Bernie's so well! Congratulations to Amelie N who won the Year 6 competition and to Taj T who came 2nd in the Year 4 finals! Well done!
Wellbeing Week
During Week 5 our St Bernadette’s Community is encouraged to participate in Wellness Week. This means prioritising the tasks that give you joy and celebrate your spiritual, physical, emotional and social wellbeing. Our students will be encouraged to cross of these experiences throughout the week and drop their punch card in the Wellbeing Box when they are completed. Teachers and Wellbeing Captains can stamp off their cards for them and at the end of the week 5 cards will be drawn out to win some Canteen Vouchers.
Happy Wellness Week everyone!
