Exciting News! St. Mary School was awarded the "Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research". St. Mary School was one of the 54 schools in the State of Ohio to receive the award. The Governor's Award recognizes Ohio schools and teachers who stimulate scientific student research and technological design and extend opportunities beyond traditional classroom activities. "These schools and teachers know that only teaching STEM from a textbook is not an option." said Michael E. Woytek, the executive of the Ohio Academy of Science. Woytek went on to say, "each of the awardees provides opportunities and experiences for hands-on learning and they clearly value inquiry-based, scientific research. Many of their students excel at District Science and State Science Day." Outstanding work St. Mary Staff and Students.

Congratulations to Mr. Woods and Mr. Crawford for your work in the past two years to develop our STEM Program. We also want to thank all of our many supporters of STEM Education who have helped us with their expertise, time, financial assistance and donations, without your help we would not have reached our goals this year. Thank you!

The students did a phenomenal job braving the heat for our first few days. Our air conditioning units are up and running again. Thank you for your patience. We ate over 300 popsicles last week.

Our new school year is well underway with happy faces and student enthusiasm. We are looking forward to a great year. If you have outstanding forms, please turn them into Ms. Barnes in the office. Students are not permitted to use computers without the signed form that you and your student understand the rules of Computer Use in the School. Thank you for dropping your forms to the office.

At orientation, many of you received our calendar of events for the SSO Event Schedule for 2019-2020. We would like to give some information on the upcoming events that we hope you can attend.

Men’s Social - Friday, September 13th JAFB Brewery in Wooster @ 8:00 PM – 11PM (or later).

Stop by for any length in the time frame for a drink … grandpa’s, uncles, etc. all are welcome!

Family Social - Saturday, September 14th – Jump and Shout in Smithville, OH.

We will meet at Jump and Shout from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. First 40 St Mary students are free! At 3pm we will go over to the Oak Cupboard next door for some ice cream.

SSO MEETING – Tuesday, Sept. 24

Ladies’ Social – Saturday, September 28th – Lincoln Way Vineyards, Wooster.

Join us for wine tasting from 5PM – 9PM.

Fall Festival – Sunday, October 6th after 11am Mass

Drumline will begin on September 30th. Practice will be on Monday's at 3:45PM. Mrs. Miyashita will be leading our drummers this year. If you are interested in participating please have your child pick up a waiver form in the school office.

Mrs. Riggle will be offering Piano lessons for beginner and intermediate piano students in Grade 3 and UP. Lessons will be offered after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fee is $20.00 per half hour lesson. Parents will be responsible for purchasing books which Mrs. Riggle will have available or will order. Students may stay in Extended Day while they are waiting for their lesson. Please call or text Mrs. Riggle to schedule your lesson time. 330-464-2230 or text.
