Safety in Bowie ISD
Standard Response Protocol - Emergency Actions
Bowie ISD uses the Standard Response Protocol on all campuses. We have 5 different drills that we run, practice, and if needed execute in an emergency. For more information, you can look on the I Love You Guys Website.
See Something/ Say Something
Bowie ISD maintains a tip line to allow parents, students, and community members to report concerns affecting our campuses. This includes threats, bullying, drug use, suspected abuse or neglect, and any other concerns that may affect our students' physical safety or health.
It is important to provide as many details as possible (dates/ times/ names/ locations, etc.) so that your tip may be investigated appropriately. You may remain anonymous, but it is often helpful if we can contact you for additional information if needed.
When you see something, say something by completing the reporting form found on all BISD websites in the top corner, the BISD App or by scanning the QR code found in all BISD schools.
School Resource Officers - SRO
This year, along with our keyless entry on all exterior doors we have wearable emergency buttons for administration and substitutes, and wall mounted emergency buttons. The wearables and wall mounts alert 911 in the event of an emergency.
How to stay involved in grades, test scores, and curriculum.
Finding Student Progress Reports, Report Cards, Grades, and Attendance
Did you know that the latest Progress Reports and Report Cards are at your fingertips at all times Ascender Parent Portal. Log into Ascender Parent Portal and look below your child's picture card for a green buttons labeled Progress Report Report Card. Click on it for your child's current progress in their classes.
You can also monitor your child's individual grades, check attendance, and receive alerts for failing or missing grades in your Ascender Parent Portal.
It is important to BISD that you have access to your child's academic progress at all times.
What did my child make on STAAR?
When the district receives notification from TEA is that the student scores are available in the parent portal, we send out an email and post on social media that your child's scores are available to view. We also share step by step directions on how to retrieve the scores in only a few clicks by logging in to Ascender Parent Portal. You no longer need a specific code to access scores because we have linked your child's STAAR scores to their Ascender information. All you have to know is your Ascender Parent Portal login which is what you used to do online registration. Click here for the directions.
Wondering when testing is this year? All information about STAAR testing can be found on our BISD website at the following link. https://www.bowieisd.net/o/bisd/page/state-testingaccountability
Curriculum/ Parent Orientation Meeting/ Title 1 Meetings
Each BISD Campus will be having a Curriculum/Title 1 Meetings and Open House. During these meetings, the principal will conduct the Title 1 presentation and share parent's right to know about programs, services, and how BISD wants to partner with parents for student success. You will also hear from the classes or grade levels on expectations, curriculum resources used, how to access curriculum, grading, homework, and how to help your child. BISD encourages you to attend and be an active participant in your child's education and ask questions that will help with student success. See below in the newsletter the specific campus dates, times, and event.
Other important information from Bowie ISD
Changes in Administration of Medication
This is to inform you of a practice change in medication administration on campus effective the 2024-2025 school year. Historically, the district nurses have followed school policy and administered medications based solely on parent signatures. The Texas Board of Nursing released a mandate requiring a physician or other practitioners with prescriptive abilities to
"prescribe" and sign for all medications prior to a nurse administering in any health care setting, including schools. We have recently obtained a standing order from a local physician to cover the over- the- counter topical ointments, first aid cleansers and cough drops/chloraseptic spray for our students. These items the school does purchase. The itemized list of products offered is available on the health form at registration and parents can opt out for their student if desired during that time.
Any medication that is not listed on the health form at registration, including over-the- counter pain relievers/ fever reducers must come from home/pharmacy in an original container that is clearly labeled, must not be past expiration, and the parent should present the medication to the nurse with a school medication form signed by your student's personal medical provider. Thank you for your help and understanding with this adjustment. Please reach out to your campus nurse for further clarification or you can reach Kelli Davis, RN district nurse at 940-689-2865 or Kelli.Davis@bowieisd.net.
Sincerely,
Bowie ISD Health Services

Parent and Family Engagement
Research shows that parent engagement in schools is closely linked to better student behavior, higher academic achievement, and enhanced social skills.
BISD and each campus writes a Family Engagement Policy, reviews it each year, and makes changes to create better opportunities for families to be involved. We are always looking for parents to be a part of these committees. Please reach out to the campus principal if you are willing to serve.
Stay Informed
At the Informational meetings at each campus in the month of September administrators and staff will be sharing how to use the app, find your child's grades, what tests will they take, programs that are available, how to help your child, homework expectations and much more.
