World Book Day - This Week at Lister!
At the Lister News Team, we know that there's nothing better to help students make progress than regular reading. That's why we loved Word Book Day this year at Lister! What an event! We want to say a big thank you to the teachers who made such an effort to dress up in fantastic costumes (please see the picture above to get a taste of the magical costumes from the day) and took part with such energy in the events during the day - making World Book Day such a day to remember at Lister. For so many of our students reading is a challenging, but not insurmountable task. Together, as teachers and parents, we can help our Lister students climb to great reading heights.
Ramadan
Dear Parents,
At the start of the month of Ramadan, we would like to firstly wish you all Ramadan Kareem! It is a special month for a lot of staff and students filled with gratitude, kindness and charity and we would like to celebrate this essence with our pupils. One of our more ambitious projects that we will be leading on in the upcoming weeks (date tbc) is a student Iftar event, supported by staff who are interested. If this is something you would be willing to be a part of, please contact Ferdousi Rahman (Galileo House PM) and Abida Sultana (Hawking House PM). Do let us know if you can provide assistance with the following:
• Ramadan decorations for the Iftar Event (lanterns, fairy lights, table cloth, cushions, bunting, general decor)
• Catering links (food and student appropriate drinks)
Please feel free tocontact us with any other ideas via your children bringing us messages or through info@lister.ncltrust.net with details you think may be beneficial for the event. We would like to make this the first of many special experiences for our Lister pupils to promote social integration and gratitude.
Hope you all had a blessed start to Ramadan this weekend and cotinue to have a blessed month.
Ms Sultana and Ms Rahman
Punctuality
This week we have had a fall in punctuality to school. We appreciate the first few days of Ramadan can be a challenge with an earlier start to the day for many of our community. However, please can you work with your children to make sure they are still leaving in plenty of time to arrive at school before 8.25am.
E-Safety
Here is a link to a PDF from Instagram on how to promote E-Safety with their APP. Many of our students and other members of the Lister community use Instagram and here we have their advice on how to remain safe while using the APP.
In the Know Parenting Workshops
We are happy to share with you a free parenting workshop being provided by the detached youth work team in association with In The Know. Sessions will be run once a month starting from 22/03/2024. Please see the poster attached for more information and sign up QR code. This programme is aimed at supporting parents with teenagers on a number of different topics from talking to them about sexual health to understanding signs of your child being exploited and much more all for free.
