March Monthly Update
Elementary
Physical Activity
In the month of March the elementary H/PE team will look to build off of the excitement of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournaments and delve into a variety of basketball skills and games. The students will all learn the fundamental skills of passing, shooting and dribbling. Along with those skills, students will also be doing basketball related activities designed to improve their fitness. Some of these activities include: figure 8 passing drills and “knockout” games involving dribbling and shooting.
Infused Health Lessons
Students will continue to learn about Nutrition through a variety of fitness based activities. Some of the activities may include: scavenger hunts, relay races, workouts, and teamwork/problem solving challenges. The concepts we will focus on include: proper hydration choices, the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy foods, and how to read food labels. Students will also explore “Energy Balance”. They will learn about the causes and effects of healthy and unhealthy food choices. Students will learn and understand that putting good food into their bodies will results in getting optimal performance out of them.
