Astronomy News
As we approach the end of the year, we are beginning to wrap up a very successful first year in DFHS Astronomy. Here is yet another photo taken by Alice A. and her SeeStar S50 tracking telescope. We present to you the "Whirlpool Galaxy," also known as Messier Object 51 (M51). This galaxy is approximately 31 million light years away from us here on Earth and has a diameter of 75,000-90,000 light years. Thus, it is smaller than our own Milky Way Galaxy. It contains an estimated 100 billion stars and was discovered by Charles Messier in 1773. This picture was taken with a tracking and timed exposure of 58 minutes. Thank you, Alice, for another fantastic photo and thank you, Aiden K., for the reference material on M51. Keep looking up!
DFHS Envirothon Team
Congratulations to the DFHS Envirothon Team (coached by Dr. Fields and Mr. Kennedy) for their outstanding performance at the SC Envirothon Competition. The team placed 3rd in Soils, 2nd in the current topic, and 1st in their oral presentation. Overall they placed 5th out of 29 teams. Great job!

Also, it is recommended that you check your attendance count in PowerSchool and confirm that all medical notes have been turned in.

Class of 2025 Elementary Senior Walk
Each year, the graduating seniors at each high school are invited to, as a group, return to the elementary school they attended. This is a great chance to look back at where you started 12 years ago and a way to inspire the kids attending those schools now. The district has scheduled the Class of 2025 Senior Walk for Thursday, May 22nd, at 8:30am. (Google Classroom will be updated with more specific information from individual schools as it is received).
In an effort to provide each school with a better idea of how many seniors to expect, please RSVP below.
Senior Sunset
Seniors, we hope to see you there!
Class of 2025 Graduation Yard Signs Are In
If you or your parent ordered a graduation yard sign prior to April 25th, it has arrived and can be picked up in the front office. When you pick up your sign, you will also be picking up the yard stake that attaches to it. Therefore, please pick up your sign at the end of the day when you have a car ride home. Thank you so much, and congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
Senior Celebration
We invite the graduates of the Class of 2025 as well as their families, to join us for a Senior Celebration as we recognize the accomplishments of our graduates and highlights of this year. This event will be held Tuesday, May 27, from 6-7:30pm.
