Northwood News November 4, 2024
Be Smart. Be Kind. Be United. Be a Unicorn.
Dear Northwood Families,
Happy November! October was a wonderful, full busy month of learning, fundraising, drug awarness and fun. As we head into November and the tempetures start to cool down (hopefully) we look forward to slowing down a bit and giving thanks. I am very thankful for this amazing, supportive, Northwood community.
As we head into the holiday season, it is important to stay focused on our task of learning and growing academically and the importance of regular school attendance. Our attendance rate dropped quiet a bit durning October. Let’s work together to improve attendance, especially as the holidays approach. Perfect attendance is a commendable goal, and we encourage all families to plan trips and appointments around the NEISD district calendar to minimize learning disruptions.
Please remember that today, Monday, November 4th, is an Early Dismissal Day with students released at 12:30 p.m., and Tuesday, November 5th, is a Student Holiday for Election Day. Classes will resume on Wednesday, November 6th, as usual. Let’s encourage students to aim for perfect attendance in November.
Thank you for being such a wonderful and supportive community and for sharing your children with us each day!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Harper

School Absences
Our goal is for all of our students to maintain outstanding attendance (at least 95%).
The best way to learn is by being present at school and on time, ready to learn at 7:30 am every day! If your child needs to be absent due to illness, please be sure to send a note to school the day they return explaining the reason for the absence. Absences for illness and medical appointments will be excused with a written note.
Please don't idle
Please help keep our community healthy, by turning off your car engine in front of our school.
WHY IS IDLING AN ISSUE?
- Idling is expensive: Idling may consume a gallon of fuel or more per hour, depending on the vehicle.
- Idling threatens health: Breathing vehicle emissions increases the risk of respiratory illness, especially in children.
- Idling pollutes: Emissions from vehicles combine in sunlight to form ground-level ozone pollution.
Morning Routines
Our school day is from 7:30 am - 2:45 pm. Students may enter the building as early as 6:50 am to eat breakfast. If your child arrives before 7:23 am they will wait in the following location K-1: K/1 Hallway, 2-5: Gym. Please have your child put a book in their backpack, so they can read while they wait. At 7:23 am the teachers will pick up the students and go to class. The tardy bell rings at 7:30 am, so please allow plenty of time. In order to ensure the safety of all our students, we ask that parents not come into the building in the mornings. We will make sure that everyone gets to class safely.
School Lunch
We have a wonderful cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch daily. This year meals are provided at no charge to ALL students as part of the Community Eligibility Program. In order for us to keep this service, all families need to provide household income information. You will be receiving a text message (sent to the primary guardian listed in skyward) asking you to compete a very short survey. This information is confidential and not seen by school staff. We need 100% participation, so please take a moment to complete this form when you receive it.
If your child wants "extras" beyond the regular school tray, you need to add money to their cafeteria account by visiting schoolcafe.com or sending in a check or cash.

Pick Up Procedures
Everyone picking up a student from school at dismissal is required to present an official green Northwood Dismissal Tag. If you need an extra one, please let your child’s teacher know. If you do not have a dismissal tag, you will be required to come to the front office and present an ID.
All car pick up and parent pick up must present their tag and wait for their child to be called at dismissal. We will begin calling names at 2:50 pm and all students will be waiting in the buliding until called.
Parent Pick Up will line up on the sidewalk near the marquee, with their green tag and wait to be called.
Car pick up will hang their green tag on their rear view mirror, line up on Rockhill and turn right into the school driveway. Wait for your child's name to be called and pull all the way forward. Please stay in your car. If you need to help your child with their buckle, please park and walk up.
We understand that this may take a little longer, however, we want to ensure that everyone goes homes safely. Thank you for your cooperation.
Students who walk home must have a letter from their parents on file in the office stating that parents give permission to walk home without adult supervision.
