Important information for 7-12 students and families beginning 4th Quarter
AGCS 7-12 Families,
With Spring right around the corner, we wanted to take a minute to notify you of important information regarding your child’s school attendance, for students in grades 7-12. As the weather gets warmer we typically see an increase in the number of school tardies. Beginning the fourth quarter (March 28) we will strictly be enforcing our tardy policy per our school handbook and continuum of consequences. Please take a moment to review the following:
As per the student handbook students are considered tardy at 7:35. We are allowing a 3 minute grace period extending this time to 7:38.
Beginning March 28, all students' tardies to school will be reset to 0 and students will be allowed up to 5 parent excused tardies. Students arriving after 7:38 will be considered tardy unexcused unless a doctor's note is provided.
On the 4th tardy, parents will be notified that the next unexcused tardy to school will result in an after school detention.
On the 5th tardy, families will be notified via talking points if their child has reached 5 tardies and are required to serve an after school detention.
Students will have 3 days to serve the detention.
All detentions will be held Monday-Thursday from 2:20-3:10 in room 505.
Each subsequent tardy following the 5th will result in an after school detention up to the 10th.
The 10th tardy will result in a Saturday detention in addition to the after school detentions.
Failure to serve the assigned detention within 3 days will result in a formal meeting with the Administration.
Through the implementation of this plan, we hope to see a reduction in lates to school that are having a significant impact on both school resources and student learning.
Thank you for taking the time to review this with your child,
AGCS Administration and Attendance
Phone Safety
Our bus drivers have observed an increase in students using their phones and not looking up while walking to and from the bus. We're concerned about their safety, as this can lead to a lack of awareness of their surroundings and nearby vehicles. We kindly ask that you talk with your child(ren) about the importance of being alert and attentive around buses and traffic. While drivers are legally required to stop for buses, distracted driving is a concern. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.
