Week Number One is in the Books!
Greetings Webber Elementary Students and Parents,
Just like that, the first week of the 2024-2025 school year is behind us. What an amazing week it has been! Hats off to everyone involved - our staff, students, and parents - for contributing to a strong start to the school year. It began with some tears being shed, especially for some of our youngest learners who were reluctant to let go of their grasp. A few moms and dads may have shed some tears too. I'm pleased to report that - usually very quickly - all of those sad faces transformed into smiles 🙂. Trust me, your kids are in good hands here at Webber.
I greatly appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility. There are a lot of moving parts and procedures involved to ensure safety and compliance with both district and government policies. Many families, veterans of Webber, are already very familiar with how we do business. For others, this is a brand-new experience. We are all united by a common interest. This is our tribe; this is our family. Take care of one another.
Reminder, all parents should say goodbye and remain outside the building during arrival to school. Also, we encourage parents who are using the parking lot when dropping off or picking up to remain on that opposite side of the crosswalk. One of our staff members will assist crossing students. Our goal is to maintain a crowd that consists of just our staff and our students near the main entrance. This affords us a better opportunity to identify and authorize visitors who are being permitted in the building.
With school in session, I'm sure many families are encountering a drastically different schedule with their children, and adjustments are being made. Perhaps you've been strapped for time and making that gourmet, home-cooked meal just isn't in the cards. Consider ordering Chicago Brothers Pizza on September 10, with 15% of proceeds going to the Webber PTO (See flyer at the end of this newsletter). I firmly believe that any excuse to order pizza is a valid excuse!
My first few weeks at Webber have been the favorite of my entire career in education. I'm fortunate to be your principal and I thank all stakeholders for your support. It is going to be a wonderful year!
PS - When the Lions are victorious, we encourage students to celebrate by wearing Lions gear the next day. I hope to see a whole bunch of Honolulu blue on Monday!

Webber - Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures (Parents Driving)
Protocols will be the same as last year, familiar to many parents. Please review if necessary.
Positivity Project (P2) Student Advisory Board Application (Due September 13)
For students who are interested in serving on the P2 Student Advisory Board, please review the associated application, attached below. The application outlines criteria for students as well obligations (morning meetings every few weeks). if you have any questions, Contact Mrs. Yow (melissa.yow@lok12.org) or Ms. Daw (dayna.daw@lok12.org).
Food Allergies
All of our classrooms will be peanut free and some classrooms will have additional allergens that will need to be avoided in the classroom. All foods will be allowed in the cafeteria, we will have designated protocols and spaces for children whose parents feel it is safest for their child to sit at an allergen free table. If your child has a food allergy, that requires them to have an Epi Pen at school, please make sure that the office has the appropriate medical documentation.
Medication - Medical Plans
Per LOCS School Board policy, the only medications that can be carried and self-administered by elementary students are metered dose inhalers and emergency injectable medications, if authorized in writing by both the student’s health care provider and parent/guardian.
Any other medication - whether prescribed or over the counter - must be administered by an authorized Webber Staff member and secured in the main office. District policies and applicable medication consent forms are available on the LOCS Health and Wellness webpage. Be advised that BOTH the respective medical professional (doctor) and parent are required to sign the form.
PSA - Garden Club / Webber Beautification Program!
Welcome back to the 2024 – 2025 school year!
Mrs. Burks and Mrs. Mucci are hoping to start a Garden Club/Webber Beautification program this year along with our fabulous PTO. Come join Mrs. Burks and Mrs. Mucci in late October/early November when families, students, and teachers could serve Webber by raking leaves, trimming trees and decorative grasses, picking up garbage, and pulling weeds. Be on the lookout for more information near the end of October!
Webber Elementary Mumkin Fundraiser!
- September 13 - Online store closes
- October 9 - Flower orders delivered to Webber, pickup onsite
Thank you for your support!
Staff Recognition - Distinguished Dragon
Throughout the school year, if you would like to recognize a staff member from Webber, we encourage you to submit a Distinguished Dragon nomination. The intent of the Distinguished Dragon program is to ensure that staff members who go above and beyond their regular duties are appreciated. The additional effort or support can range from helping an individual to helping a group or any effort that seems worthy of praise.
The staff member can be nominated by a student, parent, community member or a colleague by completing the form at LakeOrionSchools.org/DistinguishedDragon. We ask for the submitter's name and contact information to follow up with specific questions if necessary. Please make sure to select the appropriate school/department form so the message is routed in the proper direction.
Please complete the form entirely so the individual can be appropriately honored for their contributions.
