Doc Talk
Good afternoon, Phoenix!
We are officially at the end of week 4 of hexter 4 There are two more weeks left in this hexter, so let's make sure that we finish strong.
There are some new and exciting things happening here at Discovery as we work to progress and make DISCOVERY the SCHOOL to be at!
We are working on a pilot regarding attendance, which you can read about below.
Please make sure you RSVP to our next family engagement night at Tinseltown. Spots are filling up fast!
Quarter 4 sign-ups for night school will be happening shortly, so please be on the lookout for that announcement.
It is very important to make sure that your student's contact information is updated in Infinite Campus. Please take the time to make sure the proper emergency contacts are in and all information is updated. If you need to make any updates, please call Mrs. Flores in the main office at 719-391-3121.
As we approach the end of the hexter, know that anything is possible. Be an inspiration that makes you want to share your joy with others.
-Dr. Wiggins
We are featured in the Gazette this week for our Night School program! Check out the news post by following this link: https://gazette.com/news/education/night-classes-give-local-students-alternative-paths-to-graduation/article_c8491e58-be45-11ef-ae04-3b4230b73bad.html
New Attendance Contract Procedure:
- Once a student reaches the absence limit of 3 absences, and gets a fourth, they will have a meeting with Dr. Wiggins. During the meeting, the student will be given an attendance contract, where they are required to summarize their absences, obtain current grades with teacher initials, explain why they should be able to continue with excessive absences, and come up with a panel consisting of two staff members and a student of their choice.
- The filled out contract is due 48 hours after the meeting with Dr. Wiggins.
- Upon return of the completed contract, the chosen panel will convene and decide if the student can have a second chance.
- The panel meetings can be held before school, after school, or during mentor.
- Once the panel reviews the request, the student will be brought into the meeting.
- The student will have the opportunity to state their case.
- The panel will ask and answer questions.

Phoenix Day
Mindfulness & Activity
This hexter, Mr. Slaughter organized a full day of mindfulness practices and physical activities! For the first half of the day, students rotated in stations between mandala coloring, breathing exercises, origami, and glitter water bottle-making!
After lunch, we walked over to the Widefield Parks & Rec Center for some weightlifting, lap walking, basketball, volleyball, and overall good times spent together.
At the end of the day, we had an all-school volleyball game (where the teachers and staff absolutely destroyed the students)! 😂
More pictures from Phoenix Day will be in next week's newsletter!
