Mattos Family Update
November 27, 2023
Save the Date for Sing Along- 12/8
Dear Mattos Families,
Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break!
Last week, a few caterpillars were crawling around the milkweed in our outdoor learning space. This week, they have sure grown and can be seen in many of the milkweed plants. Students have been finding more eggs and can't wait to see the next stages of their life cycle. Our outdoor learning area is also home to our 4th graders' composting project. They were actively preparing the compost and taking its temperature prior to break. The compost will eventually make its way into garden beds in the learning area. I'm excited to see this area start to take life. We continue to clean it up and are hoping to improve the seating area so students can use the space during class, but also at recess. If you haven't seen the newest mural, stop by after school and check it out!
Thank you to everyone who bought See's Candy- we raised a little over $1,000 for our 5th graders to attend science camp. Look for information next week on how you can order popcorn (it's delicious) to support our students.
Authors and artists might be interested in these two opportunities: FUSD's Young Authors Contest and Mattos Yearbook Cover Design Contest. Information about both can be picked up in the office beginning at 8 a.m. each school day.

Attendance Matters
As we approach the winter season it is important to remember that daily attendance remains important. Please do not schedule trips outside of the window of days off (November 18 - November 26 and December 23 - January 7). Even a few missed days can lead to confusion when returning to class as well as lost social time with friends. Also remember, Public Health guidelines call for students to stay home from school only when they have a fever, diarrhea, or are vomiting. For guidance as to when to keep your child home, please see Health Guidance for Going to School.
Instructional Calendar- Please do not schedule vacations during the 180 instructional days.
