CSMA Adviser Update
America needs journalists... and journalism teachers
FIRST E-NEWSLETTER OF 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR
If the student media you advise was not a CSMA member in 2019-2020, consider joining over 200 media from across Colorado in our state association.
Whether you advise a CSMA-member or not, we will share this e-newsletter through J-Day. After that, the newsletter becomes a membership benefit.
The 2020-2021 calendar is available
Okay, it might not be 100% solidified, yet, but go ahead and put these dates on your calendar. Just because the world is a little nutty doesn't mean we curl up and quit.
On that note, see below for information about this year's J-Day conference!
J-Day 2020: We've Got It Covered
This year's conference will be hosted on Attendify, a web- and mobile-based event platform. Registration is $10 per attendee for CSMA members and $15 per attendee for non-members.
Schools can register here, and payment may be made online. We will be happy to invoice you, of course, if you prefer.
Pro Tip: No transportation required! :)

Adviser Opportunities
JEA is providing support through anywhereJEA digital resources.
Also, MJE and CJE certifications will be available online. From Amy Sorrell: "We are currently testing people who applied to test in Nashville, and then moving on to people who applied this spring. If you would like to test online this fall, the deadline for the application is September 1.
If you were scheduled to test in Nashville and haven't heard from me, please reach out, so we can get your test scheduled."Amy Sorrell, MJE

The Denver Post columnists
We are trying to feature more youth voices in our pages through a new Teen Columnist role. We're currently accepting submissions for columns on topics and issues in the November election and we would love your help in telling students about this opportunity. This link includes all the information students will need to become Denver Post Teen Columnists.

Thanks for being an important part of our state association
Colorado Student Media Association memberships are by school medium, and we offer four options: print news, yearbook, online, and video media. Why not renew your memberships for 2020-21 today? A single membership is $65. We offer a convenient online membership form, and you can choose either to pay with a school credit card or ask to be invoiced for a check payment.
Many schools choose to have more than one of their student media join our association since all contest fees and critique fees are included in our dues. We offer modest price breaks to those schools, so check that out.
Can't remember if you have renewed or joined? You can always check out the current membership list on our site.
a little bit about the new executive director
I'm Elise. I am honored to take over for Jack as he retires from this exciting role. I moved from Florida to Grand Junction in the summer of 2019, and I love everything about this state so far! While in Florida, I advised The Lion's Tale newspaper, OviedoJournalism.com, and the Arts Unleashed lit mag, plus taught Journalism 1 and multiple levels of English. I always loved participating in the Florida state association and look forward to helping you and your students thrive--even during this year of all types of uncertainty.
You can reach me at etceterED@gmail.com and 970.930.1877 with any questions. I look forward to getting to know all of you (virtually, for now).
To a great year!
Elise
