Weekly Update

What's Happening This Week:
馃尲 Hello Wonderful Families! 馃尲
Spring is in the air, and we are blooming with excitement in our classroom! 馃尫 As we dive into another week of learning, we can't wait to share all the fun activities we have planned. Let鈥檚 hop right into what we鈥檝e been up to and what鈥檚 coming next!
Phonics: Get ready for some shared reading fun! 馃摎 We will identify, blend, and spell words with the /么/ sound, including vowel teams like /aw/, /au/, /alt/, and /all/. Plus, we鈥檒l learn some new high-frequency words to boost our reading skills!
Here are some easy, short ways for parents to help their kids with the /么/ sound (as in "law," "author," "salt," "ball"):
"Say it like..." Game: Say a word with /么/ (e.g., "paw"). Have your child repeat it, focusing on the "aw" sound. Do the same with other /么/ patterns.
Sound Spotting: When reading together, point out words with "aw," "au," "alt," or "all." Say the word together, emphasizing the /么/ sound.
"Find the Match": Write down words with the /么/ sound and draw simple pictures. Have your child match the word to the picture.
"Missing Letter": Write a word with /么/ but leave out the vowel team (e.g., b _ _ l). Have your child fill in the missing letters.
Clap the Sounds: Say a word with /么/ slowly (e.g., "s-aw"). Have your child clap for each sound they hear.
"Rhyme Time": Say a word with /么/ (e.g., "call"). Ask your child to think of other words that rhyme (e.g., "ball," "tall").
Word Hunt: Look for words with "aw," "au," "alt," or "all" in books, magazines, or around the house.
Make it Fun: Keep it light and playful! Short, frequent practice is better than long drills.
Focus on:
Hearing the /么/ sound.
Recognizing the different letter combinations that make the /么/ sound.
Saying the words correctly.

Reading:We are kicking off Unit 10 Week 2, where we will Investigate Light and Heat! 馃尀 We鈥檒l use text features like titles and graphics to gather information and explain how context helps us understand new words like "investigate" and "observe." We鈥檒l also identify similarities in procedures and make connections between different texts and our own experiences.
Math: This week, we鈥檙e starting Topic 10, which focuses on adding a 2-digit number to a 1-digit or 2-digit number. Your child will explore various tools and strategies, including concrete models, drawings, and properties of operations, to find answers. Remember, it鈥檚 important for them to explain their thinking behind the strategies they choose! 鉃曗灃Topic 10 - Family Engagement. 鉃曗灃
Things to remember
Encourage your child to practice their spelling words at home!
Ask them about what they learned in reading and math to reinforce their understanding.
Keep an eye out for any upcoming events or activities we鈥檒l be sharing soon!
Until next time!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's education! 馃専 We are excited for another week of learning and growth. Let鈥檚 make it a great one together!
