Washington County Sheriff's Office and BSD's Public Safety Department would like to remind the Sato community that it is not legal to park across the street as it is still considered an active construction site and therefore not safe. Ridgeline is also not an official cross walk yet and it is not safe to walk across for school access. That is why at this time Bussing and Carpool to Sato are considered the safe routes to school.

The 21st Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon takes place October 9-17, 2019. This annual dialing tradition provides critical funds that support innovative educational programs for students in the Beaverton community. During the five-fun-filled nights, more than 350 student volunteers make over 30,000 phone calls, dedicating their time, energy and enthusiasm to supporting BEF programs.

Last year, BEF served over 27,000 Beaverton students in grades K-12, funding 124 academic programs or projects. Through this funding from our supporters and community engagement, $390,603 was invested back into our schools.

This year our goal is to fund 130 projects impacting 30,000 students. Together, we will make it happen.

The Phone campaign and the associated mailings are the Foundations largest fundraising activity of the year. Funds raised are reinvested in a wide variety of after and summer school programs for students at all of Beaverton public schools. Please Answer the Call for our students!

Remember any change in going home plans need to be communicated to the front office by 2:00pm.

Please know that the use of the Car Pick Up cards are COMPLETELY optional. The main purpose is to aide in a smooth and fast as possible controlled release in the event of am emergency closure due to inclement weather. Sato has NO SNOW ROUTES for busses. In the event that the District calls for Snow Routes - there will be no busses to or from Sato. This happened last year after school was in session. Therefore we had to release all students to parent or designated other pick up. These cards will facilitate this process, increasing our ability to quickly and safely locate your child for pick up.

Please help us keep all kiddos safe at school. Regardless of if they have PE or not, heelies are not safe for school. Every day students go outside for active recess and our halls are made of concrete. All grade levels, except for Kindergarten have to go up and down stairs multiple times a day. Please remind your child(ren) that heelies are not safe for school.

With Halloween just around the corner, we want to take a moment to remind you that Halloween costumes are not to be worn to school on Halloween day. We will celebrate Family Game Night on Friday, October 25th where costumes are welcomed and ENCOURAGED!

Thank you for your help in talking to your child(ren) about not wearing costumes at school!

This month our PE program will be focusing on the underhand throw. The underhand throw is a great skill that translates to many activities such as bowling, horseshoe toss, and corn hole. Additionally, the underhand throw can lead to sport-specific actions such as a pitch in softball or a soccer goalie rolling the ball to one of their defenders. By the end of the unit, we will be setting up "Sato Lanes" for students to apply their underhand throwing skills by bowling.

On 10/14 at about 10:14, all BDS schools, including Sato will participate in an Earthquake and Evacuation Drill. More information about Oregon's Great Shake Out is linked. Please know the actual date for the Oregon Great Shake Out is October 17th, BSD is choosing to participate early due to Parent Teacher Conferences for some regions of our District.

Sato proudly introduces a Parent Coffee with school leadership.

Twice a year parents and guardians from two grade levels at a time will be invited to a Coffee & Conversation in the Sato Library with Coffee and Treats provided by SECO.

The first one is for Kinder and First Grade Parents and Guardians is on Friday, October 25th.

AVID=Advancement Via Individual Determination

The Beaverton AVID Program teaches students the skills and behaviors necessary for academic success in high school, college and beyond.

• AVID tutors work with small groups of middle school students under the supervision of a teacher.

• Tutors are trained to use specific strategies that help develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills.

• Tutoring is held mainly on Tuesday & Thursday, and times vary depending on the school and volunteer availability.

Here in the Beaverton School District, we teach children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. In order to help our school be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn, we also provide age-appropriate health instruction. There will be two primary resources used for this instruction: The Great Body Shop to teach the adopted Oregon Health Standards and fightchildabuse.org to teach sexual abuse prevention in accordance with Erin’s Law. Oregon Health Education Standards

The Great Body Shop, published by The Children’s Health Market, will be used to teach the new Oregon Health Education Standards. It offers skills-based instruction that addresses physical, social, emotional, and mental health. Human Sexuality Education instruction is age appropriate, medically accurate, and relevant for all students. If you would like to preview the materials, this document outlines the process for previewing the curriculum and for information on opting-out.

Erin’s Law

An important component of our curriculum is to help children protect their bodies, get support when abuse has occurred, and report to a trusted adult. In accordance with Erin’s Law, we are educating children about sexual abuse and promoting awareness within our communities. The Oregon Department of Education has required all Oregon schools to comply with Erin’s Law. The Erin’s Law lessons address personal safety, touching safety and assertiveness.

Your child’s teacher will be sharing these sexual abuse prevention lesson outcomes with you prior to teaching them, but you can also find the full lessons and videos on fightchildabuse.org.
