Founders Memorial School News: February 7, 2025

From the Principal

Dear FMS Families,

We hope you enjoyed some quiet time on our surprise snow day yesterday. This has been the snowiest winter we have had in a long time, and I know at recess our students have loved building and playing in the snow. We are tough here in Vermont, and when the “feels like” temperature is above zero, we do go outside. Please be sure your child brings cold weather gear every day!

With the school closure yesterday, we had to reschedule our most recently earned schoolwide celebration, for filling our “bobcat paw” with pompoms. We will be having this celebration sometime soon, and we will get to engage in STEM activities in classrooms. The EHS STEM Academy students helped plan this with us, so it should be great fun.

Family Conferences

Family Conferences are coming up at the beginning of March. Our district-wide conference day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4th. Classroom teachers and specialists have shared conference signups with families for March 4th and additional times outside of school. This is an important way to connect with your child’s teachers. Please reach out to your child’s teacher with questions.

Read-a-Thon!

We have been busy logging thousands of minutes in our schoolwide read-a-thon! We are very close to meeting our goal of 200,000 minutes. Last Friday, 1/31, we had our first Schoolwide Read-In of the year. This is a time when our ENTIRE school community shares in 25 minutes of silent reading in the hallways. It is amazing that with more than 400 people reading, it is so quiet you can hear a pin drop! We will be engaging in monthly read-ins for the remainder of the school year. Thank you to Mrs. Biggs, Mrs. Pike and the PTO for organizing this fun event for our school and encouraging this healthy lifelong habit!

School Safety Drill Updates

Over the next two weeks, we will engage in two different types of safety drills at FMS.

Fire / Evacuation Drill: In this type of drill, we sound the fire alarm and evacuate the school quickly. Students are very in-tune with the expectations of this drill and have historically done a great job!

Active Threat Education: As part of our district protocol of Run, Hide, Fight/Resist, we will be doing an instructional drill over the next two weeks to review this procedure. This drill will consist of an informative video, narrated by Mrs. Jablonski, as well as opportunity for students to ask and answer questions. Arrival and Dismissal Times

Please remember that our official school day is 7:40-2:40.

Students may arrive anytime between 7:15-7:40.We have a staggered dismissal plan to ensure safe exit from the building. If you are picking up your student from school, please be prompt.

2:35: Pickups, walkers, bikers, Rec Kids students are dismissed

2:37: First Wave of Buses (approximate time)

2:42: Second Wave of Buses (approximate time)
