April Dragon Digest
April Dragon Digest
Dear DeSana Families,
I hope you all can unplug and enjoy some quality time with your child during the upcoming Spring Break! As the year is winding down, it is hard to believe that we only have about seven weeks of school left when we return after the break.
When we return from Spring Break, students and staff will have the chance to safely view the solar eclipse that takes place on Monday, April 8th. As a reminder, we will not allow student checkouts or vehicles to enter our campus from 2:45pm until 3:20pm. If you need to check your child out of school on Monday, April 8th, please plan accordingly.
Finally, I need your help with student drop offs in the morning. As you are pulling up to our campus to drop your child off for the school day, please pull forward filling in all available space up to the crosswalk adjacent to our handicap parking spaces. We are seeing significant delays to student drop-off with families wanting to drop their child off directly at the main entrance. During inclement weather days, this issue is compounded by the increased volume of traffic. I recognize you do not want your child to get wet, however, we can only fit one car at a time under our covered awning and with well over 300 families dropping their child off every day, this is creating a significant traffic jam. Please pull forward as far as you can! We appreciate your help.
Sincerely,
Keith Sargent
Principal

Student & Staff Connection
Recently our band program, under direction of Mr. Mike Mitchell and Ms. Emily Atkeison traveled to Universal Studios for this year's band trip. With 162 students in tow, our directors led the students to compete in the MUSIC USA Competition and Festival. It was no surprise that our bands were awarded the Grand Champion award in competition. Congratulations to those amazing students.
Solar Eclipse: April 8th
The next solar eclipse will take place on Monday, April 8th, beginning at 1:45pm and will last until 4:20pm. The solar eclipse will peak at 3:04pm and weather permitting, we will plan to allow students to view the solar eclipse with proper solar eclipse glasses. We are providing solar eclipse glasses for all students and staff to ensure safe viewing of this rare occurrence. Solar eclipse glasses will be distributed to all students and staff shortly before we plan to head outside to view the eclipse. We will not distribute solar eclipse glasses to any student or family before this event takes place and your child must be present during school on Monday, April 8th in order to receive his or her solar eclipse glasses. All solar eclipse glasses will be collected after the event. In addition, we will not allow any students to be checked out between 2:45pm and 3:20pm. This will allow us to close down our entrances to vehicle traffic to ensure the safety of both students and staff as they view the eclipse outside of our building.

Our end of the year state testing is coming soon! Please see the dates below to see when your child will be testing.

6th Grade Families
Attention all 6th grade families! Please begin making plans with your physician to ensure that your child's immunizations are up to date before the beginning of their 7th grade year. Current 6th graders are required to have been vaccinated with Tdap and meningococcal vaccines before the 24-25 school year. We wanted to communicate this information early and often to our 6th grade families to avoid any disruption at the beginning of next school year.
All parents/guardians of 6th grade students are responsible for ensuring that their studentsโ immunizations are updated prior to attending middle school next year (24-25)
Rising 7th grade students are required to have been vaccinated with Tdap and meningococcal vaccines.
Remember that your child will NOT be able to attend school next year until an updated immunization form (3231) is on file.
Please check with the school nurse or your physician if you are not sure that your childโs immunizations are current.
Recommended vaccinations according to the CDC:
