Sunrise Family Updates
10.4.24
Hi Sunrise Families!
Happy Friday! I hope this message finds you well as we wrap up Homecoming week. We have had a lot of fun with all of these dress up days this week! A couple quick reminders:
- Text Updates - If you are only receiving this update via e-mail and would like text updates, please Text yes to 79041 This will also ensure if there is a weather event or emergency you will receive a text message from the school district.
- Please do not drop off or pick up students across the street on S. 15th Avenue. We do not want students crossing the street in the middle of the road to get to and from school.
- The playground is reaching its final phase, which is the poured in place surface. This will begin next week Tuesday. We will need volunteers to help us watch it through the night to ensure no one goes on it. If you are interested, in sparing an hour or two to help in this way, please reach out to Mrs. Hartl and we will put you on the list!
- The playground will be ready for students to play on Monday, October 14 with the Grand Opening Ceremony on Friday, October 18 at 10:15 am. You are all invited to attend this great celebration of many years of hard work and dedication.
Please enjoy the updates below and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Katie Smullen
Sunrise Principal
Homecoming Dress Up Day Fun!
Socktober!
During the month of October, 4th graders are asking ALL Sunrise students to help with our community service project: SOCKTOBER! Our goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of *new* socks to be donated to Feed and Clothe My People. Socks are one of the most requested items for donation, and with winter coming up, everyone needs warm, cozy, and comfortable feet!
There will be one box for each grade level near the cafeteria. You can donate a single pair of new socks, or a package of socks will count for the number of pairs in that package. The grade level that collects the most pairs will receive a popcorn and juice party! The competition starts Tuesday, October 1st and goes until Thursday, October 31st.
Thank you for helping with our project!

Battle of the Books
A reminder that the Battle of the Books list is out! Any students in grades 4 and 5 are welcome to compete in this year's battle. Even if you choose not to compete, they always have a great selection of books: Elementary Battle List.

Attention Boys Basketball Parents/Guardians!
The basketball season is quickly approaching, which means it is time to begin preparing for our Youth Boys Basketball season. We are very excited to be getting started very soon! This message is to inform everyone of some important information regarding registration and the start of the youth boys basketball season.
Registration is now open for our 3rd-8th grade boys teams! To Register, please fill out this form by Monday, October 21st!
Our 4th-6th grade teams will participate in the Door/Kewaunee Area 4/5/6 Boys Basketball League once again this season. All three grades will play on the same night, at the same place, against the same opponent.
All teams (3rd-8th grade) will have the opportunity to participate in the NWBBL Saturday Tournaments along with any additional tournaments decided upon by the team at the Coach's discretion.
Practices for all teams will be held a few days per week as well. The 3rd-6th Grade practice schedule will be communicated to everyone at our Parent/Guardian meeting. The 7th & 8th Grade Practice Schedule will be communicated following the Middle School season.
Our annual Parent/Guardian Meeting will be held on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 PM in the Middle School Commons.
Very important information regarding the season including team schedules, volunteering/fundraising, our NWBBL host date, and much more will be communicated at this meeting, so it is very important that you attend!
3rd Grade Team - Coach Needed!
Last season, we included a third-grade team within our youth program for the first time in many years, and we are excited to hopefully offer that opportunity once again! If we have enough interested 3rd-grade players to field a team, we will need a head coach for that level. If interested, please contact Zach Goblisch at (zgoblisch@sbsdmail.net).
Let's Make it a Great Season!
We are very excited to get started with the 2024-25 Youth Boys Basketball Season! If you have any further questions or concerns at this time, please feel free to direct them to the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach, Zach Goblisch (zgoblisch@sbsdmail.net).
