Summer Happenings Around the School District
June 5, 2024
Hello Barrington Families;
It is already that time of year where we are firmly holding to tight instructional practices while starting to weave in end of year activities and celebrations. It is always a challenge for students and staff alike to remain in the current school year while still planning for and thinking about the year ahead. While the end of a school year is exciting and somewhat of a relief for some, it can be a challenge, sad and anxiety provoking for others. We all approach endings and change differently and those differences are expected, embraced, and celebrated!
Dates to Remember:
Thursday, June 13th at 6:00pm: 8th Grade Celebration on the Upper Soccer Field
Tuesday, June 18th: Last Day of School (½ day)
New Opportunity:
This summer Barrington will be participating in a summer meals program offered through the Community Action Partnership of Strafford County. For the first time, Barrington qualifies as a rural site to receive this free assistance. There is no need to sign up and no personal or identifying information is needed. Once we receive final program approval, you simply need to arrive at the Middle School Parking lot each Tuesday from 4:30-5:30pm from June 18 - August 20th. Be on the lookout for the final program approval flyer!
There will be employees and volunteers from the Community Action Partnership at the Middle School parking lot on each of the specified Tuesdays. You will simply need to drive through the line, tell the worker how many children you have from birth to age 18 and they will provide you with a week’s worth of meals for your family. We are extremely grateful to be able to offer this partnership.
Schedules and summer commitments demand that we as leaders and administrators think very proactively, carefully, and critically at the needs of our students, curriculum, and facilities as we approach the summer months. Although most staff who work in any school district are not year round employees per se, some do work year round, teachers engage in summer curriculum work as well as other committee work and there is a constant hum around the district. This Newsletter will serve as a sneak peek into the “Happenings Across the School District” from when the last school day of this year concludes and the first student day of the 24/25 school year is anxiously awaited.

Curriculum and Instruction
Good Afternoon Barrington Families,
There are so many exciting things happening here in the district over the summer months. We have two sessions of STEM Camp this year, August 5-8 and August 12-15, 2024. Our theme this year is The Science of Super Powers where students will learn about engineering and the design process to develop prototypes, hands-on building projects (forces in nature, properties of matter, and interactions in physics), use concepts of math (place value, measuring, number facts, problem solving, and estimation), and collaborate in groups/teams...all while having great fun!
The Nature Camp still has openings for this year. Please click here to register your child for the nature camp if they are entering grades Kindergarten through 5th grade and love to be outdoors! We are partnering with the Four Winds Nature Institute to host a Nature Play Exploration Camp this summer. We will play and explore the nature areas around BES...this camp will be held entirely outside rain or shine!
Many Barrington School District teachers will be participating in a Summer Curriculum Day for grade level teams to meet and create new units of study, explore new curriculum, create learning projects, etc. Barrington Middle School will be creating new collaborative units at each grade level that span across all content areas providing students with the opportunity to develop and deepen knowledge and understanding. Our Math Implementation Team is meeting for the final time this summer to create the final scope and sequence for our new math programs. ELA pilot teachers are also meeting to begin the process of teaching the pilot programs and ensure a smooth transition for their students.
Take care,
Student Services
Greetings Barrington Families,
It’s hard to believe we are at the end of the year! This time of year is always busy, we are wrapping up while also stepping into planning for next year. We still have Extended School Year to look forward to:
July 8-August 1
PK and Kindergarten will attend at the ECLC from 8:30-11:00
Grades 1-7 will attend BES from 8:30-11:30
Every Summer is an opportunity to review policies, procedures, attend law conferences and fine tune our practices for the upcoming school year. I intend on updating the student services section of the District website.
Congratulations to all of our graduates, Barrington is proud of you!
Enjoy your Summer,
Technology
Hello Barrington Families.
It's shaping up to be a busy summer for the Technology team. Here's whats happening in tech this summer:
Student Chromebook and Teacher Computer Refresh
We will be collecting all Chromebooks and updating, cleaning, and relabeling cases and Chromebook carts. We will also be refreshing the inventory with 100 new Chromebooks for the fifth grade students as well as 120 new Chromebooks to replace the oldest models at the Elementary school and ECLC. Also approximately 30 teacher laptops will be retired and replaced with new devices.
Security Camera Upgrades
We are finishing our fiber reconfiguration and network installation of new cameras across the district.
Classroom Interactive Projectors
We will begin the process of ordering and installing Interactive Classroom Projectors across the district. In my initial budget presentation on October 17th I presented a plan to replace all classroom projection systems with modern interactive projectors. My initial research is aimed at the Epson BrightLink® model of interactive projectors. These are cost effective systems that work with existing whiteboards but provide wireless interactive capabilities.
Academic Early Warning System
Implement PowerSchool Perform Pilot
Integrate Pickup Patrol with Powerschool
Enhance Enrollment forms for better data collection
Stay cool!
Facilities
Hello Barrington Families,
Currently we are all getting geared up for the end of the school year.
Congratulations to all of the students graduating, moving on to new schools, and new buildings.
Summer Projects
We will be completing many projects over the summer. Some of these will include; a new bridge for the cross country track trail at BMS, a renovated sign at BMS, as well as summer cleaning at all school buildings.
BES will have new entry way flooring and a front foyer face lift.
We will spend some time in the ECLC woods performing tree work for the Owl’s Nest.
Hope you all enjoy the summer and will see you in August.
