Avoca West News - May 5, 2025

All Avoca caregivers should have received an email last week (from "Registration Support" with an invitation to complete online registration for the 2025-2026 school year. This important step helps us prepare for creating balanced classroom communities, order appropriate instructional resources, and plan for next year's transportation needs. It also gives our caregivers a chance to update contact information and note any changes in emergency contacts. Please (please!) complete this if you have not already done so. Reach out to registration@avoca37.org with any questions!

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

Residency verification is required for all incoming Kindergarten, 3rd grade, or 6th grade students (and any students who move in). As part of a new effort to streamline our registration process and ensure all required documents are on file, Avoca School District 37 will host two Residency Days for caregivers who are not able to complete registration or residency verification for their incoming Kindergarten, 3rd grade, or 6th grade students before June 24th. Until June 24th, incoming Kindergarteners, 2nd graders (will-be 3rd grade) and 5th graders (will-be 6th graders) can complete residency verification in our front office. Did you know that Avoca West's PE program is being considered for the Blue Ribbon designation? This voluntary application/process serves to recognize excellent Physical Education programs in the State of Illinois. Last week a team of evaluators visited Avoca West to watch our students and staff in action, meet with stakeholders, and will pass along their notes and impressions with the Blue Ribbon Committee who will ultimately make the final decision.

One of the perks of having visitors in is the chance to collaborate and learn about resources and ideas they've seen and used across the state. Below you'll find a May calendar from SHAPE America with daily suggestions that incorporate movement, mindfulness, flexibility, and other health-related topics. With summer on the horizon, consider printing it out (attached below) and adding healthy movement to your May.
