Principal Weekly Update to Caregivers
Principal Lamour Update
Dear Luce Caregivers,
Welcome to November! We've been enjoying unusually warm weather for this time of year, although some days have been chilly. As temperatures continue to drop, please remember to send your child with appropriate cold-weather gear.
Last week, we had a fantastic time celebrating Favorite Book Character Day and attending the Scholastic Book Fair. A big thank you to all the parent volunteers who supported the event and to Jammie Carty for coordinating this wonderful week for our school community.
This week, there will be no school on Tuesday, November 5th, due to Election Day and staff professional development. Additionally, our annual Veterans Day assembly will be held on Friday, November 8th.
Please refer to this week’s Smore newsletter for further updates and information.

School Safety Update
To enhance the safety of our students, your children, and our staff, we ask for your cooperation with a few important procedures:
Please Do Not Hold Doors Open: You may have noticed new signs at our entrances requesting that visitors do not hold doors open for others. Please refrain from doing so, as it helps maintain building security.
Early Dismissals: If you are picking up your child early, they will meet you at the front doors for dismissal.
Picking Up a Sick Child: If your child is feeling unwell, please proceed to the nurse's office for pick-up.
We appreciate your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Nurse Bonner's Nifty Notes
The health office will be conducting mandated state screenings for vision, hearing, heights/weights (BMI), and spinal screening in the months of November and December.
If your child has a medical condition excluding them from the mandated health screenings, please provide the health office with a physician signed letter for exclusion. Parents that wish to waive the BMI screenings can send in a letter to the health office annually stating their wishes.
Below is information from the Canton Public Schools Handbook regarding the
screening policy:
SCREENINGS
Health screenings are mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and are conducted in the following grades at the Luce School.
Vision: Grades K through 5.
Hearing: Grades K through 3
Body Mass Index (BMI): Grades 1 and 4
Spinal Screening: Grade 5
Parents/guardians are notified in writing when a student does not pass their health screening.
School nurses will work with families to obtain the appropriate referrals and follow-up services as needed.
As always, feel free to call or email me with any questions
