SCS Weekly Newsletter 10/18/24
A news-y edition of the newsletter.
From the Principal's Desk:
Dear Salisbury Community School Community,
It feels like every newsletter is a bit different than the other depending on what has happened that week, and how much news we have to share. Last week's was picture heavy- but this one is not, because we have a lot of important news to share!
One bit of news relates to me. I have mentioned in previous newsletters that I have been helping out at Ripton School, and you may well have seen an article in the Addison Independent that described how I will be helping out in Ripton for the rest of the year. I wanted to take a minute to explain what that will look like, and what it will mean for Salisbury Community School.
I am excited that Roxanne Greene, an experienced principal, special educator, and classroom teacher, will be in Ripton full-time for the rest of the school year as the "Associate Principal" and part time academic interventionist. Her job will be to handle the day-to-day stuff that comes up. I will be the "Acting Principal", and I will be providing mentorship for her (as a new ACSD Principal) and helping with "big things" at Ripton (planning state testing, collaborating to help make school-wide decisions, communicating on Board-level topics- those kinds of things). I will be based in Salisbury, and will spend almost all of my time here. I do plan on going up to Ripton a few times a week as needed, especially as Roxanne gets started.
From a Salisbury perspective, you shouldn't see much difference, as I am going to be at SCS the great majority of the time. I hope it is always obvious that I love Salisbury School, and take my responsibilities as Principal very seriously (even when I make jokes)- it is an honor and a privilege to hold that responsibility. I'm not going anywhere. Please always feel free to reach out, especially if time goes on and you have any concerns or questions.
There's other important news later in this newsletter too, including our Community Building Newsletter and information about upcoming community meetings relating to budget development for next year. There's also a link to our online "School Store"! Please look it over!
Best, and thanks,
Bjarki

Community Building with School Counselor Tammie Johnson!
Every week, Salisbury Community School Counselor Tammie Johnson leads a community building class in each of our classrooms. Tammie and School Counselors across the district have worked hard to create a thoughtful and age appropriate curriculum that explores many topics related to community and wellness with our students. The Community Building Newsletter below will give some insight into what students have been doing in Community Building, and some questions ask your child or children to learn more about what they explore. If the picture below is a little small, a "button" below the picture has a link to view the newsletter in a separate "tab" on your computer or phone.

Monday, October 28th is PICTURE DAY!
Picture Day order forms were sent home last week, but if you need a new one, stop by school and ask Donna- she has plenty! You can also order online at mylifetouch.com.

The School Store is Back!
Once again, we are having a online school store, but this time it is open longer, and early enough that orders will be ready for the Holidays! Click on the button below to access the school store! Lots of good stuff, including new tote bags!

New for 24-25: The Time-Lapse Picture Project
This year, we thought it would be fun to chronicle the changes of the season at Salisbury Community School by taking the same picture, at the same time, from the same spot, every week. At the end of the year it will hopefully be a fun thing to look at and share! Check out the first five weeks below!
