White Marsh Elementary Student Government Officers Ella Kennedy (President), Reagan Miller (Vice President) and Aashrith Govindu (Secretary), gave a terrific presentation during the Board of Education Meeting Work Session about the projects they are leading for their school community. They were joined by their Principal, Ms. Kim Seidel and their School Counselor Mrs. Tammy Nies. They did such a great job!

Our students are so talented! TCPS elementary students demonstrated their culinary skills in Sodexo’s 2022 Future Chef Culinary Competition. Five young chefs competed in the district finals, preparing their outstanding dishes for the judges.

The Academy Art Museum held is annual student art showcase. Tcps had three of the 9 winners: Mars Ristvey and Carleigh Roe each won first place, and Fiona Cooper won 3rd place. Trysten Lee received an honorable mention for his work. We are very proud of the effort they these artists have poured into their pieces, and the incredible guidance that their art teachers have given throughout the year, as well.

The Talbot County Board of Education is moving forward in the search for a new Superintendent of Schools. The Board conducted a Stakeholder Input Survey for staff, students, families, and the general public to provide input to develop candidate characteristics. The information received from the survey was used to develop advertising, candidate characteristics, and interview questions.

The Board of Education is now seeking applicants for the position of Superintendent of Talbot County Public Schools. Application information may be found on the MABE website at http://www.mabe.org/services/current-maryland-vacancies/

The Board has also developed the following timeline:

• February 21, 2022 – Application materials will be made available
• March 28, 2022 – Application deadline for first consideration
• April – May 2022 – Interviews will be conducted
• Spring 2022 – The Board will approve the Superintendent contract at a regularly
scheduled board meeting
• July 1, 2022 – The Superintendent begins

Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an eight-hour public education program that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health programs in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. The program uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.

We will be hosting the following upcoming Youth Mental Health First Aid training:

• COVID testing site at UM Shore Medical Pavilion, 500 Cadmus Lane Easton MD 21601. Drive Through. Open Monday-Sunday 9 AM to 3 PM. PCR tests with results in 24-48 hours.
• The Health Department is still testing at their test site at 28712 Glebe Road Easton MD 21601 Monday through Friday 9 AM to 2:30 PM. Appointments are required and do fill up very fast. You can call 410-819-5632 to make an appointment.

5-11-year-olds on Fridays, no appointment required

5-11-year-olds are eligible for their Pfizer vaccine which is available on Fridays, no appointment required

• J&J: Anyone 18 years and older

Bullying and cyberbullying, harassment and intimidation, hazing, and/or bias behaviors are unsafe behaviors that do not reflect respect for others as defined by Policy 10.16 on STUDENT CONDUCT – BULLYING, HARASSMENT OR INTIMIDATION . If a student is a target of one of these behaviors, you can report it using the Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation Reporting Form (linked below).

The form is also available at all schools, in the main office and the school’s counseling office. Students can also report issues directly to a staff member. When a situation that involves any of these behaviors is reported, staff members will respond quickly and will provide a practical, private, and safe place to report.
