Principal's Message
Week of February 7, 2025
Happy Friday!
This week may have been hectic, but I am incredibly grateful to be the principal of Marshall High School. At the start of the year, one of my goals was to foster a positive atmosphere for everyone, and this week, I saw great progress toward that goal thanks to the efforts of various stakeholders.
A big thank you to Science Teacher Ms. Elasmar for bringing delicious popcorn to our faculty meeting. Continuing with the food theme, I also want to thank Ms. Lupita Martinez, our PSA Counselor, for securing donated Costco hot dogs for our 100th-day-of-school celebration. Our counseling team did a fantastic job celebrating and rewarding students with the best attendance.
Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of spending a long but rewarding day with Mr. Badiak, Mr. Garcia, and the Academic Decathlon team as they competed in speech, interview, and Super Quiz events. They represented Marshall with pride, and we eagerly await the results at the awards ceremony later this month.
This week, we kicked off our Career Speaker Series with an engineer speaking to our aspiring engineers. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to continuing this program throughout the year. Special thanks to Ms. Susan Philips, Ms. Montoya, and Ms. Bryan for their hard work in organizing this opportunity. Ms. Bryan will be posting sign-ups on Schoology for students to RSVP for speakers of their choice.
On the instructional front, our mid-year i-Ready data shows promising growth. Ms. Danielyan and I will be working with teachers to analyze the data and identify successful strategies. Notably, we saw over a 10% increase in the number of students performing at or above grade level in both math and English.
Thank you all for your continued dedication and hard work. Have a great weekend!

Black History Month
LAUSD is proud to celebrate Black History Month. Our Black Student Union (BSU) and Associate Student Body (ASB) have planned activities and educational materials for the entire school.
I do wish to remember my black hero, Dr. Michelle King, Superintendent of LAUSD. She was an inspiration to educators, students, and families. Her leadership and dedication to students was second to none. I put her poster up on my door. It’s amazing how many people have talked to me about meeting or working with her and how great she was.
Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Stage and Studio (Theatre Design)
Marshall High’s Theatre Design program continues to shine! This spring, 10 students gained 150 hours of paid industry experience.
We’re upgrading our top-tier live production program with cutting-edge digital audio tech via the Perkins Grant. In December, we provided live and postproduction for LAUSD’s AEB Modern Band Summit, earning an invite to host again.
Lovefest II celebrated our alumni and community with stellar performances and donated pro lighting. Looking ahead, we’re launching Marshall Nights, a curated event series blending music, performing arts, and community culture.
Sports Medicine
Marshall’s Sports Medicine program is creating real-world opportunities! Ten student workers are gaining hands-on experience at five local elementary schools, with additional slots opening at Glenfeliz ES.
Mr. Gomez is also coordinating a guest session with Rayelyne Ikona from AMR Southern California to explore careers in emergency medical services.
Students 16+ in a CTE pathway can apply for paid positions at $17.25/hour.
