If you are participating in this year’s STEM Fair, there will be help available every Thursday after school in the library. You can also contact Mrs. Hafen or Mr. Mangum if you have any questions along the way. Remember Lakeview’s Fair will be on January 17th . We can’t wait to see all your hard work on your project.

Lakeview Families! We are starting up "Battle of the Books"! (Q: What is Battle of the Books? A: Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students in grades 3–6 that encourages students to read. Students read books, prepare for competitions, and then test their knowledge of the books they've read.)

We are starting up with meetings next Friday (17th). We had some scheduling difficulties, and so we are starting WAY later than we usually do. But we REALLY wanted to make it work for those kids who have already been reading the books and are committed.

We will be splitting up kids into teams of 4 or 5 students in the groupings of 3rd-4th graders and 5th-6th graders. Attached is the reading list for each group. If you think your student can or is willing to read 4-5 of the books off this list (so that each team has read all 20 books) in the next 2 1/2 - 3 months feel free to have a conversation with them about it. I am introducing and encouraging this week and next week!

We will be meeting Fridays DURING SCHOOL every other week and then starting the battle questions at the end of March. The district battle (should your students team win at the school level) will be mid-April at Provo High in the evening. That is the only afterschool commitment they need to make. The only other thing they need to do it read books from this list. They will split up the reading list together as a team in the meeting on Friday.

Again, I apologize that we didn't get this started earlier in the year, but I am grateful we found a time, because originally I wasn't sure we'd be able to do it at all. Hooray for READING!

1. Go to Soraapp.com or download the Sora app from Google Play store and Apple App store.

2. Click on Find My School. Start typing then select Provo City School District.

3. Login with your Google school email address (ex: ab012345@stu.provo.edu) Their password is their birthday dd/mm/yyyy

4. Go to +Add Library. Add these libraries:

· Provo City School District

· Beehive Library Consortium

· Utah Dual Language Immersion

5. Go to Preferences. Select your preferences for available books, audiobooks, ebooks, immersion language, juvenile or young adult. Select Apply to save your changes.

6. Go to Settings and manage settings.

7. Enjoy reading or listening!

Clothing donations are welcomed and needed for the health room donation box. Pants and new underwear in smaller sizes are the most needed items. If your student has used clothes from the Health Room's Donation Box, please wash and return them to the office. Thank you!

Scan and submit your receipts using the Box Tops App within 2 weeks of buying any items with the new Box Tops label that says SCAN. Be sure to choose Lakeview when you set up your account. Submitting receipts from online orders is also available from many stores. Check out www.boxtops4education.com if you have questions. We are not collecting paper box tops anymore.

Getting groceries from Smith’s and buying on Amazon can also make you earn money for our school. If you have a Smith’s member ID (phone number), go to their website and login with your email. Search for Inspiring Donations under the My Account tab and use our Organization Number: LD084. When shopping on Amazon, access through smile.amazon.com and search to support Lakeview Elementary PTA (Salt Lake Cty, UT) to earn some cash back to our school.
